Test - Taking Tips

Tests are a fact of life. Teachers need tests to see how well students are learning the material. Students need to take tests for the same reason, to see how well they are learning the material. Tests can be stressful. You may worry you won't remember what is needed or that you won't have enough time. That is normal. Everyone feels this way at one time or another.

Get Ready

  1. The best way to get ready for a test is to think positive. A test is a challenge, you need to go at it with confidence and do your personal best. This won't happen if you never open a book or wait until the night before a test to study.
  2. You want to review for any test over more than one day, memorizing the material bit by bit.
  3. Flashcards can help you, too. Organizing your test studying with flashcards is very effective. Write vocabulary words on your cards as well as important facts.
  4. Don't stay up late the night before a test. Being rested will make you more alert.
  5. Studying with other people can also help. You may study with a classmate or a family member.

Test Time

You're in class about to take your test.

  1. Read the directions carefully.
  2. Don't change an answer unless you are sure it is wrong. First answers are more likely to be right.
  3. If you have time, check over your test to make sure you haven't missed any questions. Double check your work, particularly with math problems.
  4. On multiple choice questions, eliminate choices you know are wrong.
