Hello! My name is Nancy Heavner. This is my 11th year teaching here at
Incarnate Word Elementary School. My husband and I have been parishioners
of Incarnate Word Church for 19 years. We have 3 children who have a
combined 27 years of schooling here. They all spent their K through 8th
grade years here. During that time I was wearing many hats volunteering in
the classroom, serving on numerous committees, teaching Children's Liturgy,
coordinating Vacation Bible School, and substitute teaching. It's a great
school and I am so proud to be a part of it! I am from Louisiana and
received by BS degree from Louisiana State University in Early Childhood
Education.
I make it known to all my students that they are all learners, readers,
spellers, scientists, authors, illustrators, etc. They can be whatever they
want to be because they CAN!. The words "I can't" aren't allowed in our
room. I strive to provide a fun, enjoyable, non-competitive atmosphere that
engages all children in learning. I expect them to develop independence,
patience, accept responsibility for their actions, express themselves both
verbally and through written language, work cooperatively with others, and
grow in their love for God and others.
