I am certified in elementary education grades 1-8, and grades 4-8 Language
Arts and Social Studies. I have a Bachelors of Science in Education, with a
minor in Social Work, from the University of Missouri.
This is my fifteenth year teaching at Incarnate Word. My early years
at I.W. were in Primary teaching third grade, with a focus in Math and
Social Studies for both classes. Upon moving to the Intermediate Level,
I was the Math teacher for all fourth and fifth grade students for several
years.
More recently, I now teach Religion, Social Studies, Spelling, and
Vocabulary as part of our 4b homeroom, along with Math and Science for both
fourth grade classrooms. Fourth grade students now go outside of their grade
level for only English and their specials.
Our classroom is to be a place where we practice our faith in all that we do
and say. Students have the right to worship and pray without
interruptions. Each student is to be able to speak, be heard, hear,
feel safe to take risks with answers, not be laughed at, picked on or
teased. When mistakes happen the goal is always to ask what did I learn from
this. Our room is a small community that resembles a family in that what
happens to one has an impact on the whole. Each person needs to help create
a positive, productive learning environment. Character traits of honesty,
responsibility, fairness, and respectful behavior are highly valued.
An ongoing goal of our class is to remember that students, parents, and
teachers are united in working toward what is best for each child.
