What does Smart Casual mean?

Pre-Labor Day weeks are non-uniform.  Appropriate dress for a non-
uniform day is called "Smart Casual."

SMART CASUAL – The Non-Uniform look is Nerinx Smart-Very Smart
The first week of school students do not need to be in uniform.
Appropriate dress for a non-uniform day is Smart Casual
Smart Casual will include jeans and jeans shorts that are hemmed,
have no holes, and are an appropriate length. Smart Casual does
not include frayed hems, stained or torn apparel, sweatpants, bike
pants or track shorts.
Smart Casual will include shirts with appropriate logos and cut. No
halters, tank tops, tube tops, etc. will be allowed.
Smart Casual footwear includes shoes that are clean, in reasonable
shape and on your feet.
The Non-Uniform look is Nerinx Smart-Very Smart

What are the Nerinx Hall Uniform Guidelines?

NERINX HALL UNIFORM GUIDELINES

In the spirit of the Loretto traditions of verve and creativity,
students at Nerinx Hall have traditionally worn a uniform both as a
wonderful equalizer of economic distinctions and background, and
also to encourage identity with the school community and history.
Within the guidelines of the uniform, we wish to foster all the
giftedness and uniqueness within each of our students. Appropriate
attire is expected at all times. Uniform skirt, shorts and pants
must be zipped or fastened as the manufacturer intended.
The standard uniform and acceptable variations are itemized
and clarified for your convenience. The six school uniform colors
are white, navy blue, yellow (not gold), green (forest or kelly
only), gray, and black. The standard uniform is a white polo and
Nerinx Hall skirt.

1) SKIRT
– navy and gray plaid from Just Me Apparel

2) SLACKS/SHORTS
– navy cotton twill walking shorts may be worn year-round
– navy twill dress slacks from Just Me Apparel
– must be in good condition, frayed or worn-looking items are not
acceptable

3) SHIRTS
– plain, white, collared, short sleeve or long sleeve blouses
– white "Nerinx Hall" polo shirt or any solid white polo-type sport
shirt
– any shirts without straight hems must be tucked in

4) T-SHIRTS
– plain, white T-shirts may be worn under regular uniform
blouse/shirt
– plain, white long sleeve T-shirts may be worn under a short
sleeved polo
– "official" Nerinx Hall t-shirts or Nerinx club/government/sport
team T-shirts in school colors may be worn with the navy shorts or
slacks only, as an acceptable variation. T-shirts must be approved by Administration.

5)TURTLENECKS
– solid turtlenecks in one of the 6 school colors may be worn
alone, or under a sweater or sweatshirt. "Solid" means no polka
dots, hearts, etc. no trim of any kind

6) SWEATERS
– sweaters must be solid in one of the 6 school colors - no trim or
yokes allowed
– sweaters may not possess advertisements of products or names of
other schools or organizations
– thermal type or hooded sweaters are not acceptable
– a turtleneck or collared shirt must be worn under the sweater


7) SWEATSHIRTS
– official Nerinx Hall sweatshirts/fleece purchased through the
bookstore may be worn
– commercially bought "Nerinx" (monogrammed in skirt material)
sweatshirts are acceptable
– the official sweatshirts of Nerinx government, clubs, sport teams
are acceptable
– sweatshirts may not advertise other schools, products, locations,
etc.
– plain or hooded sweatshirts/fleece are not acceptable, it must be
a Nerinx sweatshirt
– a turtleneck or collared shirt must be worn under the sweatshirt


8) SOCKS/LEG COVERINGS
– socks must be solid in one of the uniform colors (no trim,
stripes, insignias)
– tights may be worn, but they, too, must be solid and in one of
the uniform colors
– footless leggings, mid-calf or longer, in school colors are
acceptable
–Long underwear, pajama bottoms, and sweat pants are not acceptable


9) SHOES
– leather "school shoes" such as loafers, topsiders, or athletic
shoes may be worn with the skirt, shorts and pants
– sandals, flip flops, boots, and crocs are not acceptable for
school
– socks and shoes (or tights and shoes) must be worn throughout the
school day

10) HAIR ACCESSORIES
– may be worn with the school uniform
– hats, scarves or bandannas may not be worn with the school
uniform

11) THE GYM UNIFORM - a required purchase from school
– white Nerinx Hall gym t-shirts
– green track shorts
– athletic shoes

PLEASE NOTE: Appropriate attire is expected at all times. All
uniform clothing must be in good condition and appropriate for a
college prep environment. Skirts must be zipped and hemmed.
Students are required to be properly uniformed throughout the
school day. If a student is not in uniform or the uniform is
considered to be in poor condition, she will be required to rent a
skirt at $5 per day from the bookstore. No coats or jackets may be
worn in homeroom or class. We suggest that each student keeps a
sweater or sweatshirt in her locker at all times.

What areas are Off Liimits to students during the school day?

1) Parking lot and playing field are off limits unless the students
are supervised by a teacher.

2)Driveway and area west of the school building are off limits
during school hours.

3) Deck and lawn areas around caretaker's house and Sisters'
residences are always-off limits unless the specific teacher has
received permission from the Sisters of Loretto to use their
property.

4) Areas adjacent to the classrooms on the circle drive.

What are the school rules regarding Cellular Phones or Beepers?

CELLULAR PHONES OR BEEPERS
Students may not use cellular phones during any part of the
academic day - contact and lunch periods included. If needed for
after school, they must be stored in lockers or purses. Cell phones
used during the school day by students will be turned in to the
office. Parents will be notified and students will receive a
student court summons.

Where does one get information concerning Snow Days?

SNOW DAYS
For announcements about changes in the schedule due to poor weather
conditions, each faculty member & Nerinx Hall family will be
called using SchoolReach. Announcements will also be made on the
following:
KMOX (1120 AM),
KSDK (Channel 5), KMOV (Channel 4) or FOX (Channel 2)
On days when a snow schedule is in effect, school begins at 10:00
a.m. and ends at 3:05 p.m.

What is the role of an Advisor?

 All full time faculty members will have advisees.
1) A faculty person should demonstrate an interest in students as
persons-- get to know backgrounds, limitations, interests, talents,
assets, try to eliminate the "faceless" student.

2) The advisor will maintain a folder or iniformation with the student
regarding such items as schedules, report cards, deficiencies, test
results, activities, personal assessments, credits, graduation
requirements.

3)Advisors will meet with advisees individually or in small groups and
be available for additional consultation as determined by needs of the
adivsee or the advisor.

4) Advisors will discuss personal conerns when desired or appropriate.
Identify/refer potentially serious problems to the counselor.

5)Advisors will demonstrate in some way to parents that their child is
cared about and that the advisor is available as a contact person; the
advisor may wish to speak with parents by phone, write to them, have a
conference with them, or devise a form to convey information.

How can teachers plan around Liturgies and Retreats when writing their syllabi?

HINTS FROM CAMPUS MINISTRY

*When you make your syllabus remember to note days for liturgies
and retreats.

*Days of liturgy are a shortened class time and schedule will be on
iCal. These days include Aug 16, Nov 243 February 22.

*Days of retreat may mean that you have students gone for the day
and you may be scheduled to sub for those on retreat.
Retreat Class Days : Sophomore Sept 28(all day)
Juniors Oct 18, April 13(leave afternoon before)
Seniors : Feb 2 & 3(leave the afternoon before)
Freshmen; April 12(all day)

*It takes 30+ faculty to help make the retreats happen. You will
have an opportunity to sign up as a chaperone at the opening
faculty meeting. It is a great way to see the girls out of the
desk. Please consider signing up for the students you teach the
most often. They will love to have you along. Check your calendar
for the overnight retreat.

How do I get my news or news about my students in the NHS enewsletter?

The Community will be receiving a weekly enewsletter on Friday 
afternoons. If you want anything included in the enewsletter Please
send it to Sr. Barbara by the end of the day Wednesday. Please send
pictures as a separate attachment from the article.
