I am still not able to upload the newsletter to our website from school. I have sent it to your email and a paper copy always comes home on Friday. Please look at everything so you are prepared for the weeks to come! The week of March 1-5 is Reading Week. We will celebrate each day with some fun activities. Here is what we will be doing! Monday – Hop on Pop students will wear sweats, will do some exercising throughout the day (hopping, jumping jacks, run in place, touch your toes) Tuesday – Great Day for Up – dress UP for success (district wide respect day) and DEAR time with buddies Wednesday – Wacky Wednesday – wear mixed up clothes, teacher swap where teachers on grade levels will go and share their favorite Dr. Seuss book Thursday – Oh, the Places you will Go – students will dress as a tourist or a place they would like to visit (no swim suits please) Friday – Cat in the Hat Comes Back – wear red, white, and blue Book Swap-We will be having a “Used Book Swap”. During that week, you will send in a book that your child no longer reads and they will swap for another book! Everyone will come home with a book to keep that day. Please help us by sending in a book to give to another student in the class. I sent a note home about the Accelerated Reader Program. This is where the students can read books and take tests on them. We will be starting slow and picking up speed for those who are ready. You will be able to login online to check your child's progress. You will also be able to sign up for email alerts. My son does this at his school as well and it is really cool to be able to see daily/weekly how they are doing on tests. Over the next couple of weeks you will be seeing your child begin to take tests. This is a program that they will really utilize next year so this will be great practice for them. Please encourage them to read their books when they bring them home and ask questions about them so they are ready for the test! We are finishing up telling time. The students need to know how to tell time to the hour and half hour, but we also introduced counting by 5's around the clock to tell time to the 5 minutes. Many of the students are ready for this challenge! Next up is Money!!! Please help make sure your child knows what a penny, nickel, dime and quarter look like and what their values are! Congrats to Karter and Brooke for being our latest Character Kids! Great job! You have shown kindness and respect towards others! Please use our calendar on this site to remember any important dates and events going on at Rock Creek! You can look ahead at each month and I am trying to update a month ahead also! Keep working on all of the sight words, new and old.
