BELLARMINE SPEECH LEAGUE:  Schools participating in the League compete with one or more teams of 12 students, each comprised of three serious, three humorous and three duet speeches.  The speeches are licensed and purchased by the APT, chosen by the students and memorized before they begin working with their assigned coached.  The fun part begins when the students begin “acting”, and in effect, become the characters they have chosen.

SGM teachers serve as coaches with numerous recess and after school rehearsals set by the individual teacher/coach and the student until the day of the meet.  The students perform their selection at a meet on a Saturday (see dates below), in front of a room full of parents, fellow contestants, and of course, a trained Bellarmine judge and timekeeper.  Ribbons are then awarded to all participants based on a combined total of the judges’ scores from two rounds.  There are four (4) meets every year, including the Final Meet in May.

Students who are interested in joining the Speech Team fill out and turn in a form stating their interest in the Speech Team.  Ms. Brand will then be meeting with the interested students to fill them in on all the important details.  It is very important each student participting in the Bellarmine Speech League is committed to memorizing the speech chosen, meeting with the assigned coach to prepare for the meet and attending the assigned meet. 

For those students who are committed to being a part of the SGM Bellarmine Speech Team, auditions are held to help determine your best team category and to allow us to have full teams attending each meet.
