FIRST GRADE
FOURTH QUARTER 2012
RELIGION
In this unit we will
learn that the Church is a community of people from all over the world. We will
discover many ways that the church community serves others.
READING
We will continue to
read stories from our reader, which will reinforce our vocabulary and spelling
words. We will begin our final unity in our reader. The stories will focus on
problem solving and how each decision made, opens a door to a new path.
PHONICS/ENGLISH
This quarter in phonics
we will continue to learn our vowel pair combinations (ow, oy, oi, ou, oo,
etc.) In grammar, we will learn pronouns, synonyms, antonyms, subjects and
predicates.
SPELLING
Spelling words will be
vocabulary words from the related story of the week.
MATH
Math concepts to be taught will be
- addition and subtraction facts to 20
- measurement
- telling time
- using a calendar
- two-digit addition and subtraction
HANDWRITING
We will finish upper
and lower case letters. Story writing using all letters and self-evaluation are
encouraged towards the end of the year.
SCIENCE
Our unit teaches us
about the Space and Technology. The science concepts covered will be:
- Sun and Phases of the Moon
- Stars and Planets
- Tools and Simple Machines
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will continue our
unit on citizenship. We will discuss what a citizen is and why laws are good to
have. We will talk about symbols of our country, leaders of our country and
what it takes to be a good citizen
