FIRST GRADE
THIRD QUARTER 2012
RELIGION
During this quarter we
will be learning about how God cares for us and teaches us to care for others.
We will prepare for Lent and Easter.
READING
We will continue to
read stories from our reader, which will reinforce our vocabulary and spelling
words. Comprehension strategies will include lessons in cause and effect and
making inferences.
PHONICS/ENGLISH
This quarter, we will
continue working on long vowel sounds and the correct use of verbs (ex:
has/have, is/are etc.)
SPELLING
Spelling words will be
vocabulary words from the related story of the week.
MATH
Math concepts to be taught are:
- Counting money
- Skip Counting
- Number Patterns
- Time/Calendar
- Money
- Addition/subtraction
- Facts to 12
HANDWRITING
The text continues our
study with upper and lower case letters. We will continue with number and
grammar symbols.
SCIENCE
Our unit teaches us
about Physical Science. The science concepts covered will be:
- Solid, liquid, gas
- Force, gravity, speed
- Movement
- Sound
- Energy
SOCIAL STUDIES
We will begin our unit
on citizenship. We will discuss what a citizen is, and why laws are good to
have. We will talk about symbols of our country, leaders of our country and
what it takes to be a good citizen.
