Intermediate Behavior and Work Expectations
INTERMEDIATE BEHAVIOR POLICY
Students in the intermediate grades are held to high standards of behavior.
Respect for self and others is stressed throughout the grades. We believe our
policy stresses the importance of self-discipline and is child-centered.
Students monitor their own behavior. To track behavior on a weekly basis,
students are given three tokens to keep in their desks. Teachers will take a
token from a student when there is a rule infraction. Students are usually
given one verbal warning before a token is taken from the student. Weekly
Progress Reports will reflect student behavior for the week.
No tokens lost G (Good)
1 token lost S (Satisfactory)
2 tokens lost NI (Needs Improvement) Student will write classroom rules.
3 tokens lost U (Unsatisfactory) Student will conference with principal.
Serious rule infractions will result in implementation of the school
discipline policy. (See Handbook) All students begin the week with three tokens.
GRADING
The goal is for Intermediate students to turn in work that is high quality and
error free. Assignments in all content areas will be graded in regards to
neatness, grammar, language mechanics, and spelling. Five points will be
deducted per day for late assignments. Any assignment still missing Monday
morning from the previous week will earn no credit. Please check your child’s
weekly progress report for any missing assignments. Progress Reports need to
be signed and returned Monday morning. Illness and family emergencies, or
other extraordinary circumstances will be taken into account. You will find a
sample report card in the parent/student handbook including our grading scale.
HONOR ROLL
Students in grade 4 are eligible for the SGM Spirit and Cooperation Award.
A student may not have any "needs improvement" conduct marks or "needs
improvement" conduct comments in order to be eligible for Honor Roll. Students
may have no more than 6 late assignments per quarter, no more than 2 late
assignments in one subject, and no more than one NI or U on their weekly
progress reports per quarter. Checks will be given if these are exceeded.
HOMEWORK
Students will keep track of all assignments in their assignment notebooks.
These are kept in their desks throughout the day. Students are encouraged to
write down the work as it is assigned. They will receive 30 to 45 minutes of
homework per night. By grade 4, students should be completing their homework
independently. They may need assistance in checking over their work or proof
reading. If you notice that your child is struggling with homework, please
don’t hesitate to call. Also, remember that sports is no excuse for not doing
homework.
Test Redo
Students sometimes have the opportunity to improve a poor test score but doing
a redo. The student must write out the question they missed along with the
correct answer on a loose leaf piece of paper. They then must turn it in on
the next school day. Students who score below an 80% usually receive the
redo. Students who have the opportunity to do the redo can only get an 80% if
they have all the correct information in the correct format.
We know this is a huge amount of information to absorb. Please feel free to
contact us with any questions. We look forward to meeting you all at Open House!
