THIRD QUARTER
READING
In reading, the children will continue to be exposed to entertaining stories. It will be from these stories that they will continue to work on using skills of inference, sequence of events, forming generalizations, author's point of view, and cause and effect. Students will also practice finding information through reading graphs and charts. Book reports will be assigned and the projects will be completed in class.
ENGLISH
Upon completing nouns, we will take the road to verbs. That study will include action verbs, linking verbs, helping verbs and more. We will also study future tense, present progressive tense, and past progressive tense. Third grade will also study contractions with 'not' and start to study adjectives. We will learn to write a personal letter and apply those skills by writing a personal letter.
SPELLING
We continue with homophones, compound words, words ending with -ed, -ing, changing 'y' to 'i,' prefixes, suffixes, VCCV (vowel consonant consonant vowel ) pattern words, double consonants, soft 'c' and more. To assist your child with spelling, it would be beneficial if your child would review five words each night.
MATH
Upon completing Subtraction, we will then journey through Multiplication. Multiplication includes: understanding concepts, problem solving, memorizing facts 0x0 through 12x12, and taking timed tests for practice and mastery. Daily practice of all math facts is encouraged. Finally, we will begin to study the concepts of Division.
SCIENCE
This quarter we complete our dive into the earth's surface and crust. Earthquakes, volcanoes, rocks and soil, weather patterns and the water cycle are many topics we continue to explore. Then we advance to Physical Science to answer essential questions in the areas of energy, matter, motion, and sound.
The journey continues!
