Classroom Procedures

 
 
 

·       How will students come to my room each morning?

°         Students will enter my room when arriving at school

 

·        When the students enter my classroom, what will be expected of them?

°         Students will hang their bags and coats

°         Students will place lunch boxes in a designated area

°         Students will get out their folders and place them in a tray

°         If students have notes from home there will be a tray for those

°         If students have homework to turn in there will be another tray for homework

°         Students will need to check to see what their job is for the day on the Big Frog Job Assignment Bulletin Board.

°         Students will then begin on their morning work

 

·        When will the teacher take role?

°         I will take role after the bell rings while students are working on their morning work.

 

·        Who takes the attendance and lunch information to the office?

°         Attendance and lunch count are taken on the computer

°         The student that is assigned the messenger job will take any other notes, money, or information to the office.

 

·        Are students allowed to talk during class?

°         Students will be instructed on whether they may talk quietly, whisper, or not talk at all, after each task is assigned. I will move the “We will be” sign to the appropriate light on our “Stop Light” (i.e. red- quiet, yellow-whispering, green-talking softly).

 

·        What are the procedures for sharpening pencils:

°         The student in charge of sharpening pencils will have the opportunity to do so at the end of each day.

°         If a student breaks a pencil while working they will not be allowed to get up and sharpen their pencils.  They will need to put their broken pencil in the basket that is on their table and grab a sharpened pencil from that same basket.

 

·        What should students do if they do not understand what they are supposed to do?

°        If the Talking Stop Light says they may whisper or talk softly then they are instructed to first ask a neighbor at their table to explain what they are supposed to be doing.

°        If after the student has asked their neighbor the question, and their neighbor does not know the answer then they may raise their hand and ask me.

 

·        When giving instructions, or teaching in the front of the class what is expected of the students?

°        When I am giving instructions or teaching, students should have everything out of their hands, and their eyes on me.

°        If student’s chairs are faced the opposite direction they are to turn their chairs around so that they are facing me while I am speaking to them.

°        Students are instructed to raise their hand if asked a question, or if they have a question.

 

·        How will students transition from one thing to another?

°         I will say “lip sandwiches” while using my fingers to push my lips together, or “Stop Signs” holding one hand up in the air and with the other hand hold one finger over my mouth to indicate it is time to listen.

°         I will give instructions of what we will be doing next

°         If students will need to all come at one time I may call them by tables, or in a unique manner so only a few will be moving at one time.

 

·        Where are the supplies (crayons, scissors, markers, etc.)?

°         The supplies are in a bookshelf  

 

·        What do children do when they have completed work?

°         When students have completed all their work, they will be instructed to finish any other unfinished work.

°         If all assignments are complete, students will be allowed to go to the reading pond area and look at books quietly.

 

·        What are the procedures for going to centers?

°         Centers will be posted on the wall with a group of students assigned to each center.

 

·        How do the children get into line?

°         I will call students up by tables which ever table is being the best, or one at a time, by color of shirt etc…(i.e. if you are wearing a red shirt you may line up)  

·        Where do the children stand in line (any spot, ABC order, boy/girl, etc.)?

°         Students will stand in any spot in line, except the designated line leader, and caboose (unless otherwise instructed).

 

·        What happens to papers and notes going home?

°         Students will have a mail box that I will put papers going home in, and at the end of the day students will put papers in their folders to take home.

 

·        How do students pack up at the end of the day?

°         Students will pack up in the order that they leave (Pick ups, and then buses)

°         They will get all papers from their mail box, and put them into their folders, then they will get their coats and backpacks

°         After they have put their folders in their backpacks, along with their lunch boxes they will push their chairs in and go sit on the carpet.

°         When all students have all their things packed, and are sitting on the carpet I will read a book to them.

 

·        How does dismissal work?

°         Students are given a bus tag before they are dismissed

°         At the end of each day students will be sitting on the carpet while I read to them

°         When a teacher enters my room to take the pickups outside, the pickups are dismissed from my room

°         When bus students are dismissed over the intercom I will walk the students to their bus.
