GRADE INFORMATION:

I will be taking grades in the following areas:

PHONICS

Tests – I will be taking grades on any test that is administered in the following areas:

  • Letter Recognition
  • Letter Sounds Identification
  • Beginning Sounds Identification
  • Middle Sounds Identification
  • Ending Sounds Identification
  • Sight-Word / High Frequency Word Identification

Homework – I will be taking completion grades on any homework that is done in class as well as sent home.  When homework is completed and turned in students will receive full credit (5 total points for each assignment).  Students will lose 1 point for each day an assignment is late.  Students will lose all points possible for each assignment that is turned in five days after due date, or not turned in at all.

I will be returning all assignments after grading them so you can see the points they received as well as review any problems they missed.  This is beneficial for parents to look over so you may catch any areas your child is struggling in.

READING

Tests – Students will not receive a grade for their reading ability; however their Reading levels will be tested and monitored through out the year.

Homework – Each Monday I will be sending home paper copy books.  Students will need to take these books home, and read them with you.  Parents will need to sign and return them within a certain amount of days (details will be given when books are distributed).  If books are sent back signed students will receive 5 points, minus 1 point for each day the book is late.  After these books are returned to me I will then send them back home for your child to keep.

HANDWRITING

Tests – I will be administering quarterly tests on handwriting, using proper technique, proper use of lines, and neatness.

Homework – Handwriting worksheets are done in class every day.  I will be giving 5 points for each handwriting worksheet.

1 point – writing letters using the proper technique

1 point – proper use of lines

1 point – neatness of writing

1 point – proper size of letters (not to big, not to small)

1 point – completion of assignment

Total points possible for each handwriting assignment = 5 points

MATH

Tests – The following areas will be tested quarterly (but no letter grade is given)

  • Counting (by the end of the year students should count to 100)
  • Recognizing numbers to 31
  • Recognizing Shapes (Circle, Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Oval, and Diamond)
  • Drawing Shapes (Circle, Triangle, Square, Rectangle, Oval, and Diamond)
  • Making patterns (ABA, ABB, AAB, ABC)

Tests – Students will be given a test after each unit in our Math Curriculum.  A letter grade and percent will be given for these tests.  I will send home each test after they are graded so you can go over with your child what they missed

Homework – Every day your child will do a math page in class.  I will be taking completion grades on these papers (5 point possible).  A child may bring home their math papers if they did not get it finished in class and bring them back the next day for full credit.  I may also send home homework as I see fit, and will give 5 points for completing the assignment and returning it the following day.

* Even though I do not take a letter grade on homework please review any problems they may have missed on the homework assignment.  This is very important in correcting any mistakes, or misunderstanding your child may have had over the assignment.

CONDUCT

Daily Conduct – I am giving conduct points (5 points each day).  Students are allowed a warning with no point deduction.

Frog Behavior Chart:

1st offense – students will receive a warning, and no points will be deducted

2nd offense – students will lose 5 minutes of recess, and 1 point will be deducted from their conduct points for that day

3rd offense – students will lose 10 minutes of recess, and 2 points will be deducted

4th offense – students will lose 15 minutes of recess, and 3 points will be deducted

5th offense – students will receive a parent contact, and 4 points will be deducted

6th offense – students will be sent to the principal, and all 5 conduct points will be deducted.

Attendance and Conduct – At the end of each quarter students who have not missed more than 2 days of school, and have at least 80% in conduct points will participate in a fun field trip with the principal, and a few teacher volunteers.

* Please note - If you ever have a conflict with your child's assignments being turned in on time, please contact me.  I am a very understanding person, and realize that conflicts may arise that may interfere with school work.  However if students develop a habit of turning in late assignments I will not be as willing to extend their due date.  Communication is the key in your child’s success, so please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
