2011-2012

Welcome 8th graders to a new year of excitement and learning pre-algebraand
transition to algebra! I am so glad to have each of you in my class and I
look forward to working with you and learning from you.

Parents,
There will be a few things done differently in my class this year. I will
need your support on these things throughout the year. First, we will be
working in groups throughout the year. I feel strongly that your student can
not only learn from me, but he/she can learn from his/her peers as well.
Second, homework will be a little different. It will not just be computation
problems, but it will require your child to think "outside the box" so to
say. Please encourage them to try the homework and to do their best.

Journals

I will be incorporating journal writing in my class this year. It will be on
differnt topics that involves math or how they feel about it. I am hoping
that this will help our students with their writing skills and help them to
ezpress themselves.

Your child has a handout with the following information on it:

Classroom Rules:
1. Be Courteous and Respectful.
     a.	Use appropriate language and behavior at all time.
     b.	Follow directions the first time they are given.
     c.	No Food, Gum, or Drinks in the classroom.
     d.	Keep hands, feet, and all other objects to yourself.
2. Be Prepared.
     a.	Bring all required materials to class everyday.
3. Be on Time.
     a.	Be in the classroom, seated, and ready to work when the tardy bell
        ring.
4. Have FUN and Participate!
     a. Come to class ready to take part of the day’s assignment and
         activity.

Procedures
Once you enter the classroom sharpen your pencil if needed, take out your
materials, and immediately begin your bell work! You will follow this
procedure everyday! Each student is required to have a math binder for this
class. I expect you to have it in class with you on a daily basis. I will
have random notebook checks that will allow you to earn a daily grade.

Daily Work
Homework is assigned daily (unless otherwise noted). Students must SHOW ALL
WORK (when necessary). Work must be done in pencil. No credit will be
given for a problem unless it is neat and well-organized work to justify the
answer is shown. Computations scribbled in the margin, for example, does
not fulfill this requirement. I will NOT accept homework, tests, or any
work to be turned in to me unless it is in pencil.

Make-up Work and Absences
Make-up work is the student’s responsibility! If you miss a day, it is up
to YOU to get the work you missed. We will follow the handbook policy on
excused/unexcused absences and make-up work. You will not be able to make
up work that you have missed throughout the term at the end of the 9-weeks.
