What are the procedures in Ms Kincaid's classroom?
Ms Kincaids Classroom Procedures
1. Quietly enter the room. There is to be SILENCE WHILE walking to your
seat.
2. Take out your notebooks to get started for the day.
3. Always complete the bell ringer on the board. If there isnt a bell
ringer for the day, please read the board for guidance.
4. Always respect each others responses in class.
5. Dismissal is from the teacher, not the bell. (NOTICE: The teacher will
stand at the door with her fingers raised to let the student know when it is
time for their row to be dismissed.)
6. CHEWING GUM ISNT ALLOWED.
7. Snacks or beverages arent allowed to be eaten in classroom.
8. All papers turned in must have the following heading: Full name, date,
title of assignment, and page number.
9. If you need to sharpen your pencil, raise your hand with the pencil.
Response from teacher: thumbs up means yes, thumbs down means no, moving
thumb means to wait until I give the student the thumbs up.
10. If you dont have homework, write your name and date on a sheet of paper
along with an explanation about why you didnt do it (1 to 2 sentences).
11. Do nothing to disrupt class or the educational process.
12. Whenever the teacher wants to get the class attention, she will raise
her arm with her sign that reads QUIET. Always respond by being quiet.
Even if I don't have the sign in my hand, the class should adhere to my
signal.
13. If a visitor such as a student, parent, teacher, or administrator walks
into the room to speak to the teacher, always remain quiet. If they come in
to have a seat, continue what you are doing with silence or an inside voice.
14. If you miss a day from school, it is important that your parent calls
the school to receive your class assignments.
15. If you ever need a supply, ask the teacher first by raising your hand to
get the teachers attention. Screaming isnt permitted.
16. While working independently or in cooperative learning groups, the
teacher will deliver signs that read "I've got it!" or "I need help!" Do not
hesitate to use the signs because it will let me know that you know what you
are doing or you don't! I am here to help!
May I use the restroom?
No! If a child has a medical problem that I am not aware of, parents please
forward a letter to the principal or office staff to let them know that you
have a medical condition which may allow you to go to the restroom.
Otherwise, use your time wisely during the exchange of class time. Prevent
from talking with your friends or engaging in wrongful acts in the hallway.
Take care of the necessary things before coming to class. You do have enough
time set aside for you.
When are homework assignments due?
Homework is to be turned in whenever it is due. Assignments due the date of
your absence are due the date of your return. You will have only one day to
turn in a missed homework assignment. If there is ever a time that you are
extremely ill and have missed school for a week, parents should contact the
school for any missed homework or refer to my teacher webpage. There will be
a 20 point reduction for each time homework isn't turned in.
Will students have to work in cooperative learning teams? Why?
Yes! Cooperative learning teams will be implemented in the science classroom
each nine weeks. It is intended to enhance social skills, build confidence,
promote student learning, and achievement, develop skills in oral
communication, and increase student retention. Roles will be assigned to
each student for the benefit of the group. Each student is expected to work
cooperatively with team members. The strength of the team is each individual
member...the strength of each member is the team. The teacher will select
each team whenever possible.
Do you offer extra credit?
Yes! Throughout each nine weeks, I will deliver extra credit. This extra
credit work must be completed in the time frame it was delivered or it will
not be honored. Failure to meet the deadline will result in the grade that
was mastered. It is important to talk with your child about working towards
completion dates.
Do we read in science?
Yes! The reading process is essential in science class and at home. I highly
recommend students to read information assigned to them before coming to
class. Reading prior to class time will help increase the student's
comprehension level. The following web address is an online site that your
child can read in his/her spare time: http://www.sciencenewsforkids.org/
