-> Scientific calculator (not required until Spring)

Evaluation Procedures

Homework - I assign homework almost every day. Homework is assigned for you
to practice what was done in class each day. As the old adage
says, "Practice makes perfect." If you do not practice every day, you are
only setting yourself up for failure. Even if you do not understand the
problem, you should always make an honest attempt at finding a solution.
Students will turn in homework the next day to be graded for completion. I
will answer questions at the beginning of class if you have a question about
a specific problem. All homework assignments will be worth ten to fifteen
(10 - 15) points each.

Quizzes - There will be approximately one quiz per chapter, worth 15-50
points each. If the chapter is longer or the material is harder, I may give
more than one quiz.

Tests - There will be one test per chapter, worth 100 points, which will
focus on the material covered from that chapter. Projects will also be
assigned throughout the year, covering extensions of topics that we discuss
in class.

Notebook Expectations

Everything in your notebook should be dated and stored chronologically.

Notebooks will be evaluated with a notebook quiz each nine weeks.

Front Cover - Include your name, my name, the class period.

Dividers - Class information, Bellwork, Notes, Homework, Quizzes, and
Projects.

1. Start each day with the date and objective which are written on the board.
2. Keep all notes and practice problems neatly in the order they are given.
3. You may write on front and back as you choose, and you do not have to
start a new page each day.
4. Homework should always be done on a separate sheet of paper, since it will
be collected each day. Be sure to label the date and the page numbers.
5. Sample notebook quiz questions:
      a. What was the objective on December 3?
      b. What was the answer to pg. 63 #21 on your homework from May 1?
      c. Write down the third question from the quiz on Chapter 6.
6. You may clean out your notebook each nine weeks, but good students will
save necessary notes to study for exams.

Student Responsibilities

1. To be on time for class. 'On time' means the student is seated and
working on the bellwork, copying notes from the board, or checking answers to
the homework. Tardy students will be issued detention.
2. To be prepared to work when the bell rings. This includes being in your
seat, quiet, and attentive when the bell rings.
3. To bring all necessary materials to class, including pencil, homework,
notebook, textbook, and calculator.
4. To participate in class activities until dismissed by the teacher. This
includes taking notes, being on task, following directions the FIRST time,
and moving around the classroom only at approved times.
5. To take care of personal needs before coming to class. This includes
going to the bathroom, personal errands, getting water, going to your locker,
etc.
6. To arrange to make up all missed work. It is the student's responsibility
to initiate contact about getting make up work. The teacher will not
ask/remind you about absences, make up work, etc.
7. To respect the rights and property of others. This includes refraining
from the following: verbal and physical abuse, vandalism, inappropriate
touching of others, disrupting the learning of other students, talking during
announcements or individual work times, and taking the property of others.
8. To understand that all school rules apply in this classroom according to
the handbook, Arrow Points.

Absences

Homework - If you have an excused absence, you are responsible for obtaining
the notes from a classmate and completing the homework assignment that was
missed, within the appropriate amount of time as stated in your handbook.

Tests/Quizzes - I will tell you about all tests and quizzes at least a week
in advance. Therefore, if you are absent the day before a test or quiz, and
no new material was taught, I require you to take the test or quiz with the
class. If you are absent the day of a test or quiz, you must make up the
test or quiz before or after school. It is your responsibility to schedule a
make-up time with me. If the test or quiz is not made up in the appropriate
amount of time, you will receive a zero.

Consequences

If you are diligent in preparing for class, always doing what is
expected of you, and present/on time for class most days; you can expect the
following rewards:
1. A greater sense of pride and accomplishment.
2. A grade that reflects all of your hard work and effort.
3. Potential to earn extra points to boost your grade on individual
assignments.

I do not ask/remind you about absences, make-up work, etc.

I do not give grades, I merely record effort.

Ultimately - you must be responsible for yourself.
