SCHOOL YEAR 2008-2009
FRIDAY AUGUST 8:
BR: Students will enter class, find assigned seat and begin bell ringer -
most important events in world history.
Teacher will introduce herself and entertain questions from students.
Students will participate in a discussion about the most important events in
history that they completed earlier. Students will complete student
information sheet. Teacher will pass our learning myths worksheet and review
these with class. Students will paticipate in scavenger hunt around the
room
in order to identify varoius important locations and procedures that will be
necessary throughout the year.
HW - Students will read procedure list, study it, and get it signed by a
parent or guardian. QUIZ on the information in class on MONDAY. Also, all
students MUST have a 3 inch (or bigger) binder for this class - separate
from
other classes! A list of various other supplies are listed on this site
under 'supply list.'
MONDAY AUGUST 11:
BR: Students will receive bell ringer assignment sheet and begin to
complete, after instructions from Brewer.
Students will complete quiz containing information about the procedure list
given on Friday. Also, Brewer will check for the correct binders and
dividers required for the class. Teacher and students will review all of
these procedures. Students will begin first group assignment.
TUESDAY AUGUST 12:
BR: Students will receive hall passes for the 9 weeks and begin to label
their envelopes and manilla folders that Brewer will keep in class.
Brewer will pass out books during this time.
Students will not complete group assignment b/c of class meetings with
administration about the handbook. Students will receive grade sheets.
HW - Students must have the required supplies by Wednesday, August 13,
unless
otherwise notified from Brewer. Students will complete map if they did not
finish it in class. Also, Wednesday is the last day to turn in signed
procedure list, otherwise Brewer will begin issuing detentions.
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 13:
BR: Class will begin filling out a world map, labeling various locations
important to our study.
Students will finish group assignment that was started on Monday. Groups
will present their products and Brewer will explain to the classes what she
learned from observing them during the group work. Brewer will review how
she grades group work. As a class we will look at text book to familiarize
ourselves with the history book layout.
Students will discuss with partner what they believe to be the meaning of
the
quote "I set the table, you set the meal." Each student will then write a
paragraph explaining their opinion.
THURSDAY AUGUST 14:
AUGUST 14: THURSDAY
Students pair up and label as many things on the map packet as posiible with
no resources to look from. Each pair is allowed to spend about 2 minutes on
each page of the packet. Each student will read the quote on Brewer’s door –
“I set the table, you make the meal” and will write a paragraph explaining
what they think it means. Class started talking about and completing notes
on the first unit – moarchs in Europe.
FRIDAY: AUG 15
BR – define monarch, absolutism, divine right. We will discuss this in
class. Began a short review of the renassiance period in Europe. Students
will receive a packet outlining the events, and we will go over the
highlights. Class will begin discussing the information in section 1 of
chapter 19 - monarchs in Spain. We will begin filling in our notes.
MONDAY: AUG 18
Students turn in map packet from last week and DO NOW worksheet. Review
monarchs in Spain and begin monarchs in England. Class will complete a
positive/negative chart. Class will draw the notes for Elizabeth I and
discuss.
TUESDAY: AUG 19
Students will complete notes on Elizabeth I. Begin notes on monarchs in
France, possibly move to monarchs in Russia.
WEDNESDAY: AUG 20
Finish monarch in Russia. Students will complete a world map with
information relating to the monarchs we have studied. Students will
complete
a double bubble chart comparing Europe before the renassiance (before these
monarchs) and afterward. Students will begin planning their silent movie
about one of the dynasties.
THURSDAY: AUG 21
Students will finish planning their silent movie and pratice, making last
minute plans and changes to their set. Students will perform these FRIDAY.
FRIDAY: AUG 22:
Performace of the silent movies and review material of the monarchs.
MONDAY: AUG 25
comlete several charts on the monarchs

continue review and complete paragraph fill in of monarchs

discuss things we have today that are a result of the things discovered or
studied during this time
complete drawings of the varoius methods of thought that were changing -
section 1 of chapter 20 and begin notes on philosophers of the time.

finish notes on section 1 and match them up with Brewer's drawings of the
same information.
Begin section 2 in chapter 20
create a VENN diagram of the traditional and new ideas of thought of the

It. Class discussion on what revolution means. Complete worksheet briefly
describing Elizabeth I and her relationship with Parliament. Next,
discussion and notes on the reign of James I. Class will point out the
strengths and weaknesses of the king.
TUESDAY SEPT 16:
finish James I and Charles I downfalls. Complete bubble chart listing
Charles' enemies. Take notes on the English Revolution. HW - quiz
WEDNESDAY SEPT 17:
define civil war. Review the 2 different sides of the English Revolution -
Cavaliers and Roundheads. Take notes on the results on the revolution.
Start book questions on section 2, chapter 21.
THURSDAY SEPT 18:
finish book questions. Describe the differences between the private life
and
business life of Charles II. Describe the rule of William and Mary.
Go over last test.
FRIDAY SEPT 19:
COMPLETE time line. Class complete the roller coaster ride of Parliament
worksheet.
MONDAY SEPT 22:
review time line and William and Mary worksheet. In groups, start time line
poster project outlining the 10 monarchs we have studies this unit. One the
time line, groups will include the following about each monarch - 1 personal
fact, 3 political facts, 1 illustration, dates on their reign.
TUESDAY SEPT 23:
Groups will finish poster project. Students will complete a who, what,
where, when worksheet on the Continental Congress and the Declaration of
Independence.

WEDNESDAY SEPT 24: Students will complete a picture matching activity with
the events leading to the American Revolution. Class will take notes on the
important facts of the revolution. Students will complete a vocabulary
matching worksheet.

Students will write down the purpose of the new types of machinery.
Students will pick a new invention/discovery in Europe during the
Industrialization and illustrate life BEFORE the invention and compare it to
an illustration of life AFTER the invention.

Students will complete Industrial Revolution packet.
FRIDAY OCT 17:
Students will complete world map exercise relating to the spread of
Industry - section 3, chapter 23.

Students will draw on the BIG map the illustrations from FRIDAY. Students
will complete worksheet on renaming inventions.

Students will define #8,9,11,12,13 on the list of things they drew on the
world map. Next, students will complete notes on the middle and working
class worksheet.

Students will finish the double bubble began at the start of the unit.
Class will participate in a review game for test. Class will take quiz.

Students will create a bubble chart to outline the main points in chapter
24. Class will go over and correct the chapter 24, section 1 worksheet they

HW – Students will write a paragraph answering the following question: Why
is the 2008 presidential election so important. You are not to express your
views about any particular candidate, but discuss all the things happening
that would cause the next president to need to be well qualified.
WEDNESDAY OCT 29:
Class will turn in HW and will complete Darwin information sheet. Class
discussion on Capitalism and communism. Class will complete activity
comparing the 2.
THURSDAY OCT 30:
Class will have discussion about the new discoveries during the cultural
revolution in Europe - chapter 24: social sciences, medicine, and the arts.
Using pg. 628 in book, describe surgery before and after the cultural
revolution

Class will take notes on the art revolution in Europe. Students will pick 2
