Can I see a sample book report?

Sample Book Report

Title: Desiree
Author: Anne Jarie Selinko
Publisher: Phoenix Press
Year of Publication: 2002
Number of Pages: 594

Point of View:
The narrators point of view is 1st person. Desiree is telling the
story. Though she discusses the actions of others, it is from her point of
view.

Setting:
The story takes place in Europe between 1794 and 1829. These years
are important because they are the years Napoleon became such a huge part of
French history. The story begins in a silk merchants home in Marseilles,
France. It then moves into the royal palace in Stockholm, Sweden. In between
we are taken to Paris and into the courts of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte.

Main Characters:

Desiree is the key character. She is motivated by her desire to
Napoleon Bonaparte was also an important character. All of his actions were
planned in order to help him achieve
Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was motivated by the fact that he wanted

Strengths and weaknesses of Desiree:
Strengths: Desiree had a strong sense of who she was and what she wanted out
of life. Proof of this could be found
Desiree also was physically strong. While many of those around her
suffered from disease and common illnesses, Desiree was almost never sick.
Throughout her life she maintained good health which enabled her to
accomplish many things that she might not have otherwise been able to do.

Weaknesses: Desirees love for Napoleon proved to be a weakness in that it
kept her from being able to move forward in her desire for happiness. She
allowed him to dictate events, for example,
A second weakness exhibited by Desiree was her need to maintain
contact with Napoleon even though she would rather have erased him from her
life. This was evident when

Summary:
This story is based on the true story of Bernadine Eugenie Desiree
Clary who in real life was engaged to Napoleon Bonaparte but married Jean-
Baptiste Bernadotte and became queen of Sweden. The story is a fictitious
account of her life after she met Napoleon.
After Napoleon gives Desiree her first kiss in the family garden he
and Desiree become engaged, but she is betrayed when he goes to Paris and
meets Josephine. As she flees the scene of that announcement she is helped by
the man she will eventually marry and who will become the King of Sweden
making her a queen. The story tells of her love for her husband and how she
must endure long separations from him while dealing with the goings on of
Napoleon with whom she must have constant contact because of family ties (her
sister is married to his brother) and political duty first as princess of
Sweden and then as queen. In the book, Napoleons love for Desiree never
truly dies, while she truly loves her husband. In the story, it is to Desiree
that Napoleon surrenders his sword.

Theme:
The moral of the story is that life may not turn out the way we dream
of plan, but if we accept the differences that come an grow with them, life
can be all that we want it to be.

Recommendation:
I really liked this book. Part of it was a love story, but part of it
was also about peoples lives during the time of Napoleon reign which was
very interesting. I realized that life was full of betrayal for the people
who were part of the aristocracy. It inspired me to look up more information
on Desiree.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the
activities of queens and kings and also to those who enjoy love stories.
Anyone with an interest in the Napoleonic period or Sweden would also enjoy
this book.

What are the requirements for the WW I project?

Ottis
Revised 2009
WORLD HISTORY
World War I Project

You will create a project as part of our study of World War I. Your project
must show evidence of time, effort, creativity, research, and you must pay
special attention to presentation. Except for the poetry project, this is a
visual assignment. I will be glad to answer any questions or assist you with
this project, but it is your project and the ideas and final product must be
yours. This is not an overnight assignment. Do not wait until the week it is
due to begin working on it.

This assignment is due Tuesday, January 20. You may turn it in early, but you
may not turn it in late for any reason. If you cannot be in school on January
20, you must have it delivered to me by 3:45 that day. If I do not have your
project in hand by 3:45 on January 20, I will not accept it. This project is
worth 100 points.

The only food items that can be used on your project are dried beans. You
may not use dirt for your battlefield, however you may use a mixture of dirt
and glue to cover your battlefield surface.
DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING ON YOUR PROJECT THAT WOULD VIOLATE SCHOOL OR DISTRICT
RULES, for example, no weapons or other forbidden items.

You are to complete one of the following projects for your World War I
project assignment:

1. Create a model of a WW I battlefield (Include both sides trenches, no
mans land, war activities that one might expect to be taking place. You must
include equipment, soldiers, shell holes in a realistic environment You must
present both sides of the battlefield accurately.) This model should be no
smaller than 18 x 24 inches.

2. Create a model of a trench (Include barbed wire, parapet, periscope,
sandbags, rations, shelter, duck board, living conditions, gas mask, soldiers
and any other items that would be found in the trench.) Make sure your model
and the equipment are on a relative scale. This model should be no smaller
than 12 x 18 inches.

3. Visual presentation of one of the following:

	a. health problems suffered by soldiers (for example illnesses,
diseases, weather related problems, pests such as lice, rats etc.) You must
have at least five examples.
OR
	b. new or improved weapons used during the war. You should have at
least five. Your explanation for improved weapons should include how they
were used in WW I that was better than the way they have been used in the
past.

This option must be done on a science fair display board with wings. You must
have a heading to identify your board. You must include a combination of
illustrations (no less than 4 in a 5x7 size) and text. You may offset smaller
pictures by including a larger number of them. The board must be colorful and
appealing to the eye. There should be little background area that is not
given to your presentation. You should have 2-3 solid paragraphs about each
item on your display

4. Create a game based on World War I. You must design a game board,
objective, means of movement and movement pieces, question cards, and any
other devices necessary for a group of at least four to play. You must turn
in the game in a form that I might sit down immediately and play it with a
group of four. The directions should be typed and should be very clear and
concise. Your game must be original. (For example, you may not turn in a game
of checkers in which the play pieces have German flags against British flags.
That is not an original game.)

Start researching early and enjoy this project. Be creative and ambitious.
Dont forget to ask if you have questions or need help.
