October 6-10

Study for nine weeks test
We will begin the novel THE PEARL whenever testing is over.
Students will begin reading THE PEARL as soon as their test is over.  



September 22 - October 10

NOTEBOOK: STUDENT NOTEBOOKS WILL BE TURNED IN THE DAY OF THEIR NINE WEEKS 
TEST.  THIS NOTEBOOK GRADE WILL COUNT AS A CHAPTER TEST GRADE.

Writing:  order of paragraphs Complete exerces 1-4 in writing packet

Thursday:  September 4

Vocabulary - study pages 3/4 of packet; work pages 5-6
Grammar - Study comma rules for test on Friday
Writing - none

Friday:  September 5

Vocabulary:  Work pages 7-8 of packet
Grammar: Work on finding examples of comma rules:  you should have examples 
         for all rules of capitalization and commas
Writing:  Complete types of writing and questions (this was discussed in 
          class on Tuesday.)

 







August 25 – 29 10th Lesson Plans

Monday  - Friday

Today we begin Presentations.  It is difficult to determine exactly when the 
presentations will be completed.  The students will be given a vocabulary 
packet that must be completed by Friday.  Also, when we have completed 
presentations, we will review  comma rules.

As soon as the presentations are over, I will post new assignments.






Monday, August 18
     Worksheets on comma use:  items in a series, conjunction joining two
          sentences, and coordinate adjectives
     Write rules in notebook
     Find examples of new rules
     Work on presentations which are due on Monday, August 25
  
Tuesday, August 19
      Open notes: answer questions about Elements of a Short Story
      New Comma rules:  Essential and Non essential phrases - write rule in
           notebook and find example
      Complete worksheet finding essential and nonessential elements
      Review writing notes
      Work on Presentations

Wednesday, August 20
     Arrow Point: write rules for commas to set off introductory words,      
                  to set off introductory words like well, yes, 
                  after introductory participial phrases
                  after one long introductory prepositional phrase or 
                  two or more short introductory prepositional phrases,
                  after introductory adverb clauses.

                  Complete worksheet practicing these comma rules
                  Notebook work:  find examples of comma rules
                  Work on presentation

     Writing notes - study writing process and aims of writing.  Bring 
                  an example of each type of writing to school to share 
                  
                  Work on presentation

     Arrow point:  write rules for using commas to set off interrupters
                   appositive and appositive phrases, words used in direct
                   address, parenthetical expressions
  
                  Complete worksheets practicing these comma rules

     Arrow point:  write rules for using commas in dates and addresses,
                   salutation of friendly letter and closing of any letter,
                   abbreviations following a name

                   Presentation is due MONDAY
