General Information

            INFORMATION SHEET
MS. JONES

Enter the classroom and be seated in your assigned desk. Do not change your
seating assignment. Sit only in your assigned desk. Do not congregate at
the door and rush in when the bell rings. Students need to be in their desks
when the bell sounds

A short “do-now” assignment will be on the overhead when you enter the room.
You should start immediately on the assignment. These assignments will be
kept in a separate section of your notebook. Write the problems and work them
out. If a diagram is used, copy that as well. I will collect these every
Friday and grade them based on effort. If absent, write absent for that day.

While you are completing the do-now, I will walk around the room and check
your homework. Homework is to be in your notebook—not in textbooks or
backpacks. If you homework is not in the correct section of your notebook
and in order, you will receive no credit. Organization is very important to
success in mathematics. Homework grades are based on completion (100, 75,
50, 25, 0) unless stated otherwise. I will, at times, collect and grade
homework for accuracy.

If you are tardy for first period, an admittance slip must come from the
office. If you are tardy for classes 2-10 a detention will be issued.

If you are absent from school and have an admittance slip, place it on my
desk as you enter the room. Assignments and worksheets will be located by
the door. It is your responsibility to get you assignment and worksheets.
These are to be turned in within 5 days of your absence. These are to be
place in a basket on my desk. If you missed a test, it is not to be made up
during class. See me to schedule a time for you to take it. The exception to
this rule is for an unexcused absence. These tests must be made up
immediately upon your return to class.

Math builds upon itself. It is important to keep up every day. Home work
will be assigned almost every day. If there is time left at the end of
class, you should begin your assignment. Do not ask to study for another
subject. This time is for math only. You must begin your assignment at this
time.

If you need extra help, feel free to ask for it. That is part of my job.
You come by for extra help before school (unless I have duty), after school,
during 2nd period or 9th period. Ask for a note beforehand.

You will need a ruler and at least a 2” 3-ring binder. The binder is for
notes, assignments, “do-nows”, etc. All work is to be kept in the binder,
not your book or backpack. You will also need section dividers. You will
need an inexpensive scientific calculator. Calculators are available in the
classroom, but you will need one for use at home.

In addition to this, my geometry students will need a compass, protractor
and colored pencils. Also, you will need a pencil pouch in which to place
these items.

Be a good note taker. Carefully copy notes and examples. Refer to them for
help with your homework. Ask questions if you don’t understand. Keep up
with assignments every day. If you do this, tests should not be a problem.

Be prepared. Books must be brought to class every day. Failure to do this
will result in a detention. Do not leave your books in the desk overnight.
They tend to disappear. No eating or drinking in the class room.

When working in groups, it is the responsibility of each person in the group
to work. This is a time to work together, not to socialize.

Homework, class work and quizzes will make up 50% of your grade. Tests will
count the other 50%.

Be kind and considerate of every person in this classroom. Raise you hand for
permission to speak. Remain in your assigned seat unless permission is given
to get up. With everyone working and cooperating, this can be a wonderful
school year.
