FAQ
MOD stands for Mississippi Occupational Diploma. The MOD curriculum allows students with an IEP to graduate with another diploma option besides a certificate. The curriculum for the MOD is geared towards preparing the student to became a contributing member of both the work force and society. How is the MOD curriculum different from general education? The Mississippi Occupational Diploma is set up much like the general high school curriculum in that there are four core courses a student must take. Each year an MOD student must take a Job Skills Math class, an Employment English class, a Life Skills Science class, and a Career Prep class. What are the graduation requirements for MOD?
How do you teach job skills in the classroom? Our students are not only taught in the classroom but in the school and community as well. We require a minimum of 30 school- based job shadow hours during the sophomore year. During the junior year a minumum of 30 community- based job shadowing hours is required. Job shadowing allows the students an opportunity to get hands on work related experience and the benefits of classroom instruction. No, the MOD is closer to the General Education Curriculum. While we do require our students to work as part of this option, it is not the same. Fast Tracking is an option available through the flexibility of the MOD program. It allows the students to catch up to their graduating class by simplifying the MOD curriculum. How do I get on the Fast Track? Students must demonstrate responsible behavior, self-management skills, personal drive, AND must meet the requirements for the MOD. Behavior, work history, and ethic will all be taken into account before any decisions are made. |
