I am proud to say that I am a graduate of Coffeeville High School. I
take pride in our school and community and encourage students to do the
same. I graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in
education. I have taught various classes since I have been at CHS,
including 7th grade, 8th grade, ASP,Special Education, and now GED.
Since I have been teaching the last 13 years, I found that I enjoy the
challenge of working with students who might not be the typical 'model
students'. I pride myself on having a good repertoire with my students and
earning their respect and trust when they feel they have been pushed aside.
I do expect hard work and self-discipline from my students, but I also know
that sometimes, not everyone can meet the same expectations, so I find ways
to work with those students. I try to be firm, but also empathetic.
My mission is make all of my students become independent thinkers who can
apply problem-solving skills to everyday and unfamiliar situations, not only
academically, but in common-sense areas as well.
As a GED teacher, I realize I have some students who might not become
professionals, but can become productive, hard-working citizens, with a high
quality of life. Not only am I teaching academics, I have to incorporate
everyday living, work, and social skills into my curriculum. I want my
students to be capable of drawing from their own knowledge and skills to
work through and figure out unknown material, situations, and/or
problems they will face in the future and have enough general knowledge to
improvise when necessary to solve these problems.
