Week of May 7
So the Dodgers continue to do well. I'm pleasantly surprised by this. I'm
enjoying it, because if you know anything about baseball you know it's a long
season and anything can happen. It can easily all slip away.
With that said, this is my last official week with my seniors. We will spend
the remaining time writing about our time spent in compulsory education.
Looking forward and looking back. Exams begin on Friday, best of luck to all
involved.
Juniors - Working with Hemingway. The short stories. Minimal yet epic. We
will read a few more short stories and make connections.
Spanish. - A PowerPoint to show off what you know. And getting ready for exams.
Ciao,
Mr. R
Week of April 30
Tomorrow is May 1. Friday is May 4th, as in May the 4th be with you. A Star
Wars Unofficial Holiday. I'll celebrate it in some way.
The Dodgers are continuing a remarkable run. Mostly playing lesser teams and
winning but it's nice to be on the plus side of the standings.
Seniors - We are beginning the beginning of the end. We'll work a little more
with War, including some speeches, and then we'll end it with personal
reflection essays about our many years in the public education system.
Juniors. We'll begin working with the only writer that made me want to be a
writer. Hemingway.
Spanish. Solamente trabajando en espanol.
Have a Great Week. Summer will soon be upon us.
Mr. R

Week of April 23
So Senior Presentations continue this week. We'll run through the entire
week. Hopefully we won't have to go into next week.
The presentations have been informative and insightful. A word to the wise:
make your 15 minutes.
Also, they are supposed to start picking up computers this week from my
seniors. So be prepared for that. I mentioned it all last week. Don't be
caught unawares.
My Seniors will finish working with Orwell's "Shooting an Elephant," one of
the great essays. And then we'll take a look at some war poetry.
Juniors are knee-deep in the great poem "Song of Myself" by Walt Whitman.
We'll continue with that throughout the week. (It's long, but excellent.)
Muchachos de espanol - we'll finish chapter 5 and spend a little time reading
about the great baseball player Roberto Clemente, Hall of Famer and Humanitarian.
So much work to do. And prom is this weekend. Don't forget.
No rest for the weary.
Mr. R

Week of April 16
So here we are. Roughly a month away from graduation so keep fighting the
good fight.
Seniors - We begin Senior Presentations and continue working in class on
critical thinking and writing. It's not over until it's over. We are working
until the bitter end. No rest for the weary.
Juniors. Song of Myself. The poem of all poems. Let's see what Whitman can
teach us and how he changed American literature and poetry.
Spanish - As always, working on speaking and writing.
By the way, the Dodgers are now 9-1, still bottom feeding but taking advantage
of the opportunity. The best record in baseball, as of right now. But it's a
long, long season.

Week of April 10
So, the greatest of all games is here. Baseball.
The Dodgers have begun their season with a nice 3 and 1 record, bottom-feeding
on the Padres. They'll do some more bottom feeding for a while so there
record should be nice, and illusory.
Regardless, spring is upon us and I look forward to working diligently and
productively with all of you.
Seniors - So much to do. Come to class, do your work, avoid problems.
Juniors. - Poetry. Finish Walden, then off to Whitman.
Work, work, and more work - until the bitter end.
Enjoy the beauty of spring.
Mr. R
Week of April 2
Greetings,
Baseball season is upon on. The greatest of seasons (if you ask me)!
I want to congratulate some students for reaching their AR goals by the end of
March - I wanted them to read over the Break and to complete their goal before
April. April will be incredibly busy.
Congratulations to James Coleman, Christina Harris, Tawanda Jenkins, Courtney
Massey, and Jasmine Reed! Simply outstanding. Incredibly impressive. I'm
very proud of all of you.
I realize that some of you attempted to complete your goal - Great job! Let
us endeavor to realize our reading goal and earn that 100% test grade! You
can do it.
Seniors - We're finishing The Canterbury Tales and getting ready for Hamlet.
Not to mention getting ready for Community Night and Senior Presentations.
Juniors - finishing Walden and getting ready to jump into the fiction world of
Hemingway.
Spanish - Hablamos, estudiamos, escribamos in espanol!
Mr. R

So much learning afoot.

Week of Jan. 3
Welcome back! We are now over the hump and on the journey towards the end of
the semester. Congratulations, you are almost there.
Now of course, you realize that we still have so much to learn. (And by the
way, you will always have much to learn. The minute you think you know
everything is when you stop growing as a person. Not good.)
English 4 will begin Beowulf. An adventure story with monsters! Coolness.
(We'll return to the Research Paper shortly.)
English 3 will begin in the Age of Reason. The American Revolution was not
just about war but about ideas. It's always ideas that are the most dangerous.
AP will continue working within the friendly confines of the essay. And,
we'll begin working, intensively, in the world of the Multiple Choice portion
of the AP Exam.
Y la clase de espanol, vamos a trabajar en la lengua espanol.
Let's have a great year.
Mr. R.
