About The Teacher

This year I am teaching 4th and 5th grades Gateway Quest students. Quest
is our name for the Intellectually Gifted program at Lafayette. It is an
acronym for

         Question
         Understand
         Examine
         Solve
         Think!

and underscores the hands-on, exploratory nature of our program.

I have taught several years in the gifted program at Lafayette and taught
many years prior to that, mainly in third grade at Lafayette. I received a
Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education (K-3) from the
University of Southern Mississippi, a Masters of Education in Early
Childhood Education and a Specialist's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction,
Elementary Education, from the University of Mississippi. I acheived
National Board Certification in November, 2000 and also hold Mississippi
teaching endorsements in the areas of early childhood education, elementary
education, computer applications, and gifted education.

Married to Wayne Pruett, I have three grown children, two really beautiful
granddaughters, and a varying number of critters (mainly cats) in my
household. I enjoy reading, sewing, playing piano and organ, and spending time
with my family.

My teaching reflects my love for reading, science, and math by
the activities and projects we do in class. I believe it is important for
all students to be exposed to new and different learning activities in all
areas, try out new skills, and learn self-responsibility as a contributing
member of the group. Please browse through this web site to see some of our
activities and projects. Feel free to contact me with any questions or
comments you may have.

Mission For The Class

Gifted classes for students in grades 2-6 were mandated by the State of
Mississippi in 1994. My goal is to help these intellectually gifted
students reach their potential, develop their abilities by building on
skills and interests they have, and encourage independent thinking.
