Your Lady Commodore Coach

Coach Amy Sutton is entering her 5th season as the head coach at Lafayette 
High School.It was in 2006 that Coach Sutton accepted the position of 
head girls’basketball coach at LHS to revive a program that was in need of a 
change. 
Since that time, Sutton has led to way to a 2008-2009 winning season of 16-
14. The Lady Commodores finished 2nd overall in Division 2-4A and 6th overall 
in the state. In the 2009-2010 season, she led the Lady Dores to a whooping 
29-3 record. Coach Sutton won her first Division II-4A title with the Lady 
Commodore basketball team. They received their highest ranking since 1993 of 
#3 in the state. The Lady Commodore team played in the semi-finals of the 
state tournaments and were defeated by the two time defending state 
champions. 
 
Coach Sutton played Division I college ball at Alcorn State University where 
she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from 1998 - 2001. 
She furthered her education from 2002 - 2004 when she received her master's 
degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Southern 
Mississippi with honors.

Coach Sutton has a mother, Brenda Sutton and father, James Sutton, Sr.who 
both reside in Jackson,Ms. She also has an older brother, James Sutton, Jr., 
a beautiful sister in law Marie & an adorable neice and nephew who reside in 
Birmingham, Alabama.

With God as my ally, I walk boldly and confidently into my destiny. I 
continue to strive to for excellence in all of my endeavors. I can only 
achieve the goals of my career and life if I continue to put my trust and 
faith in God. It is not me, but Christ through me that I will fulfill my 
purpose in life.
