Co-Teaching Conference: Successful Teachers, Successful Students The Mississippi Association of Educators, in collaboration with the Mississippi Department of Education, is excited to present its conference titled, �Successful Teachers, Successful Students.� This conference is specifically designed for general education and special education co-teaching teams, and will provide a variety of training opportunities in the areas of classroom management, differentiated instruction, co-teaching strategies, cultural competencies, and bullying. Building Partnerships for Youth Transition: Let's Build Together!
The Mississippi Department of Education, Office of Special Education (MDE/OSE) and the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) are sponsoring the 3rd Transition Conference, �Building Partnerships for Youth Transition,� on November 2-4, 2011. Learning Forward Mississippi Learning Retreat Learning Forward Mississippi ( formerly the Mississippi Staff Development Council ) will hold its 2011 Annual Learning Retreat November 7-8, 2011 at the Eagle Ridge Conference Center on the Hinds Community College Campus in Raymond. Joellen Killion, Senior Advisor of the national Learning Forward organization, will facilitate the two-day retreat. The topic will be Implementing Practices and Principles of a Learning School . In this workshop, participants will enhance their implementation skills on how to: 1) use data to improve student success, 2) put collaborative professional learning teams into practice, 3) develop a school culture that enhances educator and student learning, and 4) provide appropriate professional learning to support implementation of the Common Core Standards. Research has shown that these sustainable practices improve teacher performance and student learning.
The retreat will begin at 8:00 a.m. on the Monday, November 7 and conclude at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8, allowing time for participants to get home and vote in the general election. As a cost savings measure for schools, there is a three for the price of two registration offer. Each participant will also receive a copy of Lois Easton's book Professional Learning Communities by Design: Putting the Learning Back into PLCs, along with a CD of tools. Learning Forward Mississippi is applying for approval to offer SEMI Credits and CEUs.
