AP Comparative Government

pending update......

SUMMER READING

Cheng, Nien. LIFE AND DEATH IN SHANGHAI. New York: Penguin Books, 1988.
(paperback)

This is a memoir of the life during the Cultural Revolution. It won't teach
you WHAT you need to know about China, it'll just give you an idea about why
you ought to "give a rip" about knowing it!

Motivational Preview: When Nien Cheng overhears her servant asking a member
of the Red Guard, "Do you beat your teachers often," the answer
is "Naw.....Only when they try to make us do things like READ BOOKS!"
