I graduated from South Panola High School in 1979. From there I went to the
University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. I withdrew in 1982
and started working for Fred's Dollar Stores in Jackson, MS. I then started
working at a wholesale florist in Jackson before moving back in with my
parents in Ripley, MS and working at a NAPA auto parts store. While working
at NAPA I started attending Ole Miss. I then also started working for an
auctioneer on the week-ends. So for about two years I had two jobs and
attended college. I withdrew form Ole Miss in 1988 and continued working
for the auctioneer. In 1989 I started working for Amory Garment in Amory,
MS. I then moved to Columbus, MS where I started working for Sears. In
1990 I also started working for Beall-Ladymon in Leigh Mall. In 1992 I
started working for Columbus Vacuum Center. That is where I learned how to
spell vacuum. At the end of 2001 after 9/11 I was laid off and could not
seem to find a job. It was at this time that I partnered with a friend of
mine and we started our own janitorial service(CNG Cleaning Services
"Cleanliness is Next to Godliness"). I also decided to go back to college
hoping the third time would be the charm. I have several family members in
the Education field and they encouraged me to go into elementary education.
I took their advice and in the fall of 2005 I graduated from Mississippi
University for Women (located within walking distance from my house). I
then substitute taught during the Spring of 2006 and took my first teaching
job here in the Fall of 2006. So far I have no regrets about my switch in
my career or being a teacher at Oak Hill Academy. Each step in life is an
adventure and a learning experience. Life is what you make it to be with
God's help.
Our mission this year is to learn as much as possible in one school year.
