Mosaic
You will be creating a mosaic with the paint chips provided. SKETCH you picture
before you begin so it is well thought out. Think in terms of light and dark. Try and be
consistant when cutting out your squares, and don't make them too big. Don't forget to
leave some white spaces between them. This process is slow, but worth it!

Complementary Painting
You will create a painting using 2 complementary colors. (Colors that are opposite on
the color wheel.) You will also be doing a tint and shade of those colors. (Adding
white and black to the colors.) You will sketch your painting first. Once you show me
your sketch you will get the final paper. The subject matter is open to anything.

Assignment

1. Draw a circle on the piece of paper provided.
2. Use a ruler to find the center of the paper and mark it.
3. Drawing lightly (so you can erase the lines) divide the circle into 12 equal pieces.
Divide the circle into fourths, and the fourths divided two more times. See diagram
below.
4. For now, set the circle aside. On the heavy paper draw and shape that will create
and interesting pattern, and will also fit into one slide of the pie you create in the
circle. (The shape needs to be unique...be creative!)
5. With this stencil, you will trace the shape twelve times.
6. Begin mixing the colors from the color wheel and painting your shapes. Each
shape must represent one section of the color wheel.
7. When colors are dry, cut out the shapes.
8. Go back to your circle and glue your painted shapes into the sections of the pie.
Make sure they are in the same order they are on the color wheel.
9. Erase the remaining pencil marks.

Shapes need to be cut neatly and painted to match the colors of the color wheel as
accurately as possible. Be tidy when gluing!

Create a collage on your folder with images that represent you. It should include a
surreal figure as a focal point and your name. Please fill both sides of folder with
collage and have fun!!
