Reading

Your child will work in a small reading group based on his/her reading level. He/she will be taught strategies on how to decipher "tricky" words. Comprehension of the text will be a key component of reading groups.

Please frequently read with your child. As you read pause and ask your child to explain what was read. Ask him/her to predict what might happen next in the story. Have him/her retell the story by asking about the story's character(s) setting, events, problem, and solution.

Writing

Writer's Workshop is a researched based, interdiscplinary technique. This technique exposes your child to writing on a continual, repetitive basis. Through repeated exposure to writing your child's fluency in and comprehension of the writing processes deepens.
