How do I become a student media assistant?

This course is opened to 11th and 12th grade students. A completed 
application,including a recommedation from two teachers, must be submitted 
to one of the librarians. Students are selected from the applicants. 
Applications are available in the library.

Can I come to the library during lunch?

Yes, but you must have a pass from the Media Coordinators. Passes will be 
issued on a first come - first serve basis.

How long can I keep a book?

Books are checked out for a period of three weeks.

Can I check out a reference book?

Yes.  Reference books can be checked out overnight.  Come at the end of the 
school day to check out reference books.

Can I use this website from my computer at home?

Yes.  Go to dhconley.com.  At this site you will find a wealth of 
information about D. H. Conley.  From the top bar select "for Students".  
Scroll down to locate the DHC Media Center link.  From this location you can 
find all of our research sites.  You will also find an excellent site for MLA 
Citation 
Format information.

Is the media center open before or after school?

The media center is open every day at 8:00 a.m.  After school we are here 
until 4:15.

Are On Line resources free or do I pay a fee to use them at home?

All On Line resources are free to Pitt County School students.  This 
includes access to EBSCO, searching hundreds of magazines, newspapers, and 
other publications, and World Book On Line.

Do I need a password for On Line resources?

Yes, Please stop by the media center for all passwords.

Does the library have a copy machine?

Yes.  There is a small fee for student use. This fee covers the cost of 
toner and supplies.

How often do students get to go to the library?

This can vary with the student's schedule.  Teachers schedule time for 
research, checking out books, computer use, and any other projects that 
require library time. Teachers work closely with the media personnel to 
schedule adequate time for assigned projects.  The library is open for 
students to come in any time during the school day if they have permission 
from their teacher.  We do not encourage skipping class to visit the library.

Can I search the library catalog at home on my computer?

Yes.  From the DH Conley page, select "For Students" and scroll down to PCS 
Libraries.  Select DH Conley.  This open to the catalog of all books located 
at DH Conley.  If you want to select another school you will be able to 
search their collection from you home computer.

Can I borrow a book from another school in Pitt County?

Yes.  Visit the DH Conley library and ask one of the librarians to assist.  
If your request is available the book will be delivered to DH Conley where 
you can pick it up at your convenience.
