College Planning

Seniors and parents should be setting up appointments w/ colleges to visit
asap. Juniors and seniors have one day during a school day they can visit
colleges per year. Students should consider using October 29 & 30 and
November 11 for college visitations. Students should check w/ their guidance
counselor on how to set up their appointments. RAH 9-18-09

Any student interested in UNC CH might be interested in reading a blog about
UNC CH admissions - http://unc-admissions.blogspot.com/. RAH 9/1/09

Students attending a four year college or a community college will want to
check out "Cooperative Education(co-op)" when you enroll at your college. Co-
op is a program at some colleges when students work in a career related to
their major for 1-2 semesters. Co-op opens the door to real-world
professional experience and life changing opportunities. Co-op students
graduate from college w/ as much as $40,000 in their pockets, professional
contacts, an impressive resume, and job offers. Interested students should
check w/ Mr. Hobson in student services for more info or go to www.co-
op.edu. RAH 9-1-09

Students and parents should be aware that $10,000-50,000 can be saved by
attending a community college for the first year or two before transferring
to a 4 year public or private college. There is excellent information on
the cfnc.org website. Once there, click on the Transfer Student Planner.
Students and parents can also make appointments with Mr. Hobson, Career
Development Coordinator, or their counselor regarding using the college
transfer option. RAH 9-1-09
