I have been teaching Spanish since 1966 and have a BA from Immaculata
University in Pennsylvania and a MA in Spanish Language and Literature from
Villanova University. This is my eighth year at Fuquay-Varina High School
and my 21th in Wake County Schools. I have been in the profession since 1966
and have previously taught in both public and private schools in
Pennsylvania, Florida and North Carolina.
I do my best to stay aware of the trends and goals for second language
teaching in North Carolina and the U.S. and have served on various state and
county committees on a variety of topics such as Assessment, Articulation,
Curriculum and Textbooks. I have also been called upon occassionally to
present workshops for foreign lanugage teachers in the county as well as at
the state conference. This year I will again be participating in
the "tertulia" or literary conversational group for Spanish teachers in
Wake county. For the past two years I have been invited to help score the
Advanced Placement Spanish Language Exminations and have found it to be an
invigorating professional experience. Currently I am also serving on the
School Leadership Team and the School Improvement Committee.
I am happy to say that I achieved National Board Certification in World
Lanugages the first year it was made availabe to World Language teachers in
2001-2002.
My goal is to enable my students to leave the classroom feeling empowered to
communicate in another language and to appreciate other cultures. I hope
that they will look at their ability to communicate in Spanish as a skill
which provides a worthwhile addition to whatever career path they choose to
follow.
