(Classify skills, objects, and situations within categories of the Pyramid) Groups of 3 or 4: Draw pyramid to organize Maslow's Hierarchy. Look at 1st learning log entry and put your skill, objects, or situations in the appropriate area of the pyramid. Explain your choices to the group. Check with a green marker things you have already and a red marker the things you want before becoming a parent.
One member will share for each group. Post pyramids and visit each and place your initials in the highest level you could fulfill as a parent. Give examples based upon the 4 implications above.
Friday, Aug. 28- (1.01 Infer and classify guidelines for parents to meet children's needs)
Complete "Meeting Children's Needs" as you view: meeting the children's needs.
Write guidelines for parents/caregivers to meet these needs. 15 min. Share with class... agree thumbs up, disagree, thumbs down. Brief discussion on incorrect information. Classify your guidelines by telling the level (on Maslow's pyramid) of reward addressed in each guideline. Class discussion.

Choose one opinion with which you strongly agree or disagree and make a list of 3 reasons supporting the opinion. Discuss in small group. Share with class. 4. Homework: Study for your test over Maslow's Hierarchy of needs and meeting the needs of children, the rewards and challenges of parenting, readiness factors to consider before becoming a parent, positive and negative reasons for becoming or not becoming a parent, and understanding advantages and disadvantages of types of family structures. Write a job description for a responsible parent that includes: rewards and responsibilities, training, qualifications, influences, family structure, life cycle, hours, pay, vacation, and job benefits as part of your learning log.
Wednesday, Sept. 9: Take test on 1.01 following test procedure. After test turn papers over on desk corner and read Chapter 6 in PRR pp.125-141 define terms on page 125. Select 8 questions on p140 to answer and pick 1of the Think Critically. Be sure to write the questions and answers or include the question in your response. Turn in on stool when finished. Correct test in class.
Thursday Sept. 10: 10 minutes to complete after test assignment. Revisit 1.01 Classify and Identify family structures and stages of the lifecycle (for the family living under your roof only).
Use paper cut outs or draw your family..give them personalities, clothing, including shoes, faces,skin color, etc. Tape their hands together with clear tape and post (sing masking tape curls) under the appropriate heading: Blended Family, Single Parent Family, Nuclear Family, and Extended Family.
Put your initials or name on your figure and place your class period # by it. Finish for homework if you do not in class.
Friday, Sept. 11: 1.02 Understand teen sexuality, teen pregnancy, and responsible decisions about abstinence vs. sexual activity. 1. Write the definition of "teen sexuality" in your learning log. Compare yours with those in the texts. 2. Write specific ways teens express their sexuality (talk, dress, walk, move, etc.) 3. Take notes on teen sexuality and the changes in each area of development: (PIES) Physical, Intellectual, Emotional, Social. Write in your log about ways in which the media can affect teen sexuality and self-concept. Media includes TV, Videos, Music, Internet, etc. Handout: Relationship and Dating Bill of Rights
Monday, Sept. 14: Classify and post familys if you have not done so. Substitute teacher. View "Antwone Fisher" and complete video viewing report as it relates to parenting and child development. Include relationships, foster parenting, abuse, love, etc. Be able to take a quiz when I return.
Tuesday, Sept. 15: Complete video and turn in Report. 1.02 Interpret thoughts and facts about responsibilities and consequences of teen sexual activity. Students briefly discuss consequences of sexual activity related to teen pregnancy and STDs. Write in log: Teen pregnancy creates four types of problems: 1. health risks, 2. impact on educational choices, 3. financial problems, 4. emotional and social stress.
Wednesday, Sept. 16: Write in learning log to the "teen pregnancy scenario (1.02A). Understand health risks to both teen mothers and babies. Complete KWL Chart 1.02C "Risks of teen pregnancy to mother and baby" (K what you know, W what you want to know) and then read DC pp58-69 and complete "L". Infer the challenges that teen parents face. 1. (15 min)Complete "What are some Challenges of Teen Parenting (1.02E) Share answers and correct incorrect responses. Understand the challenges pregnant teens might face with social, emotional, educational, employment and financial aspects of life. 2. Write in your learning log the major challenges teen parents must face. How would you cope with the risks and challenges? 3. Write in your learning log two of your life goals. Then write how those goals would be affected if you found you were going to become a teen parent. 4.. Mini presentation: "Did you know?" statistics. 5. (Practitioners: Obstetrician for high risk pregnancy -17 and younger/35 and older- 8 of 10 women choose this; Family Physician- regular birth -will refer to specialist if complications; Certified Nurse Midwife- easy pregnancy-birthing center) Testing during pregnancy: ultrasound (soundwaves) to detect proper growth and development; amniocentesis-needle in amniotic fluid to detect down syndrom/birth defects; chorionic villi or villus sampling-biopsy (tissue sample) to detect birth defects. Doctors visits: 1-7 months; once a month; 8th month-every 2 weeks; 9th month each week. Homework: for those who did not complete take home test due to absence, work on this and turn in by Wednesday.

Read and find 5 changes in the infant; draw a timeline on paper with one end marked "birth" and the other marked"one year.2. 4.01C Motor Sikill Milestones- line up in order based upon when each motor skill would occur starting at birth. form one line for fine motor and one for gross motor. Step forward when your skill is called and read it and explain why it is gross/fine motor. 3. PATTERNS are significant in this lesson..Read in Developing Child Ch. 8 about the similarity that begins with one of the above letters.
