Food Pantry Information
Are you interested in helping us collect 100 food items for the HS Food
Pantry for the 100th day of school?? Check out the information listed below
about their needs and wishes.
**Thanks for helping teach our children about how communities work together!**
Needs and Wish List
· Our Greatest need is and always will be food!
We served 984 clients in 2011 and are averaging 25 families each week. That
means we need “2500 to 3000” pounds of donated food each month.
When you do your shopping, consider buying extra fresh produce or fresh fruit
and donate part of it to the Cupboard.
· Toiletries
Save hotel shampoo and soaps, toothpaste, razors, etc. We try to add a small
bag of those items in each box.
· Some items we run short of frequently are:
Canned or powdered milk
Peanut butter
Crackers
Broth and gravy
Juice
·Some items we need less of are:
Cookies, chips, olives, things that do not have nutritional value.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We’ve had a great start to our year! First grade is an exciting time
and the students are working hard! :)
I need some volunteers this year for our class, however my volunteer
opportunities will be different than in Kindergarten. I don’t need daily
classroom volunteers, but please read below to see if you are interested in
filling (or sharing) one of these positions!
PTA liaison-This volunteer’s main responsibility will be organizing the
O’Holly Night basket. This may be a great “job” to share.
Library volunteers – I need one or two parents to help with this activity.
The students will be checking out books once a week from 10:15-10:55. The
day of the week will be chose to fit the volunteers’ availability. This
volunteer opportunity could be done by one parent or two parents who
alternate weeks.
Literacy Coaches –This involves you coming to read to one or two children,
for about 20-30 minutes each, once per week. The times will vary and are
based on the teachers’ needs. You may be able to read with a student in our
classroom or possibly in other classes and grade levels. Training has been
offered in the past.
Field Trips – We will have two field trips this year. One is to Lowe’s Foods
and the other is to Laurel Hills Nature Park. If you are interested, you do
NOT need to let me know now, but you can sign up closer to the date of the
trip. Please make sure you are registered as a volunteer well in advance of
the field trip so that you are cleared to go.
:) PLEASE READ!!!! :)
Please note that in whatever capacity you choose to volunteer, you
will need to come to school and register as a volunteer. You must be a level
3 for some volunteer positions. (Yes, even if you registered last year, you
must register again.)
If you have any questions, please email me at gnagle@wcpss.net.
Thank you,
Gretchen Nagle :)
**If your child's afternoon transportation will be different than usual, you
must send a note or call the office @ 557-2660. Thank you!
**Please note that volunteers MUST complete the registration each school
year. Registration is completed on the a computer in the computer lab.
**Please be aware that we have a few kids this year with nut and other food
allergies. If you want to send in a treat for your child's birthday, please
avoid anything with nuts of any kind. Also, the treat must be **STORE
BOUGHT** and not homemade.
THANK YOU!
