Reading

We are in the third nine weeks. We will be studying the following objectives.
 
Receptive Literacy

Develop phonemic awareness: segment the phonemes of one-syllable words.
 
Use phonics knowledge of sound-letter relationships to decode regular one-syllable words.
 
Recognize many high frequency and/or common irregularly spelled words.
 
Read and comprehend fiction and nonfiction text using: summary
 
Predict and explain what will happen next in stories.
 
Respond in answering what, when, where, and how questions.
 
Read and understand simple written instructions.
 
Recognize and relate similar vocabulary use and concepts.
 
Discuss unfamiliar written vocabulary after reading texts.
 
Expressive Literacy
 
Use specific words to name and tell action in oral and written language.
 
Extend skills in using oral and written language.
 
Compose a variety of products using a writing process.
 
Apply phonics to write independently.
 
Write all upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
 
Use complete sentences to write simple texts.
 
Use basic capitalization and punctuation.
 
Use legible manuscript handwriting.
