About The Teacher

Welcome to Lake Myra Elementary School!! Let me begin by telling you a
little about myself since we’re all new to each other. My name is Mrs.
Behrend (that’s pronounced Bear-end), and I’ll be teaching music to all of
the pre-schoolers through fifth graders. My family has been living in
Raleigh for about four and a half years; prior to that we were in Ohio. My
husband is a physical education teacher at Holly Ridge Middle School, and it
was his job that brought our family to this sunny state. This is my third
year at Lake Myra, but I've taught in two other Wake County Schools as well
and in Ohio I taught general music to pre-schoolers through fourth graders at
two Ohio public schools for 7.5 years. Prior to our move, I conducted a
church Youth Choir and sang with a professional singing group. I have two
daughters who attend Lake Myra(a fourth grader and a second grader). In
addition to teaching, I absolutely love painting, reading, and Irish dance.
Last year I began attending ECU for my masters in music education. It's been
grueling work but very educational. That’s me in a nutshell… if you ever
have any questions or concerns, please e-mail me at kbehrend@wcpss.net or
contact the school via phone. I'm the short one on the far right in the
picture... that's my Irish Dancing team at a regional competition.

Mission For The Class

I believe that my job is to bring out the best in your children, both
musically and behaviorally. Every child has music inside of them… the less
exposure they have to music, the more it slips away. But if it is developed,
especially at an early age, the music will stay with them for a lifetime of
appreciation and enjoyment. I will work with your children to help them find
their singing voices, match pitch, read musical notation, accompany
themselves on instruments, develop an appreciation for beautiful music, move
to music, create and compose music, and much more. In short, this year will
be packed with fun and creativity.
