         E.A. Laney High School 2007-2008
I.   Instructor: Coach Chuck Martin
II.  Health Curriculum: This course is designed to give students an 
     in-depth look at the major areas of living a healthy life.
III. Course of Study

IV.  Grading 
     A. Class Work  30 %
1.Separate notebook that includes notes, handouts, and any other
          material given out in class.
        2.Completes all class activities on time.  Most class activities 
          must be done in class and cannot be made up (supplemental 
          reading/research will be assigned to help make up the material 
          missed.). 
        3.Completes all Lesson Quizzes on time. Lesson Quizzes must be made 
          up BEFORE the Unit Test.
        4.One research project is required.  Each student will also be 
          required to present this project to the class. 
     B.Unit Test 30 % 
        1. Unit Test – There will be a UNIT TEST given at the end of each 
           unit.  All questions will come from information on the Lesson 
           Quizzes and notes given in class.
        2. When a Unit test is given, the notebooks will be checked and 
           graded. All make up work must be completed before the Unit test 
           is given.
     C.Class Participation 10%
        1. Attends Class, on time, prepared for class, in compliance with 
           all school ID and dress codes, displaying a cooperative and 
           workmanlike attitude, and participates in class discussions.
        2. Have your textbook and notebook with you at your assigned seat 
           with a writing utensil ready when the tardy bell rings.
          A.If you are too tired to pay attention you should be home resting.
          B.Let me know if you are having a “bad day”.  Too many bad days 
            will result in a conference to try and help you have great, 
            positive days.
        3. Bathroom activities should be taken care of between classes. If 
           emergencies arise you will have 2 passes to use during the 
           semester. If you need more than this I will need a note from home 
           explaining why you require additional time.
        4. Points will be assigned daily.  CLASS DISRUPTIONS WILL RESULT IN: 
   A. NO POINTS for the daily activity 
           B.REQUIRED MAKE UP WORK FOR THE WORK MISSED. 
     D. Current Event Summary  10 %
        1.8 current event summaries are required on any health topic.  They 
          should be turned in each Friday.
        2.A paragraph summary, a paragraph critique and a copy of the 
          article are required.
        3.NO ARTICLES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE TUESDAY BEFORE THE FINAL 
          EXAM (the last week of class).
     E. Final Exam  20% 
        1.The final exam is a comprehensive exam on the State Objectives.  
        2. All questions will come from the Unit tests.
V. Bonus opportunity – You may choose to do a class presentation, research 
   report or additional current event summaries for extra credit.  I MUST 
   APPROVE ALL WORK BEFORE YOU START.
VI.Expected behavior guidelines
        1.Respect for other students, staff, and Laney property will be 
          observed at all times.
        2.Talking inappropriately will not be tolerated.  All questions and 
          answers require a raised hand. 
          A.RESPECT (attentive silence) will be given to anyone addressing 
          the class.
        3.Every student has the right to learn and feel safe in class, free 
          from ridicule.
          A.School is a place for learning. Learning is best accomplished in 
            a serious atmosphere.Our classroom environment will be a relaxed 
            but business like atmosphere.
          B.Honesty, integrity and hard work are values your family and  
            school community expects and deserves.
