The 2009 Laney Bucs are excited about the upcoming baseball season. Led by
seniors Jeff Ferrell, Bob Hiatt, Justin Somers, Danny Lorenzini, Steven
Winters, and newcomer Nick campbell, the Bucs are looking to improve on
last year's record by continuing to work hard throughout the year. These
seniors are great leaders and will combine with several members of Coach
Bentzler's 2008 JV conference championship team to carry the Bucs to a
successful season.
2008 season record :16-8 (8-4 Mideastern 4A\3A) Lost in 1st rd. of NC 4A
playoffs to Fuquay Varina ,5-0.
Key Losses : RHP Josh Whitesell (Lenoir-Rhyne University), OF Brian Jordan ,
OF Matt Hickey, IF\OF Justin Barnes.
Key Returnees: RHP Jeff Ferrell , C Robert Hiatt , SS Ryan LaGrange , RHP

Keep an eye on : RHP Dallas Perdue , RHP Kyle Legates , 2B Luke Tendler ,
OF Nick Campbell.
Team Strengths: Solid pitching staff led by Ferrell and Somers. Junior
Kyle Legates , Sophmore Dallas Perdue, and Senior Danny Lorenzini also give
the Bucs talented depth. Steven Winters and Raliegh Stoughton will also
contribute. Defensively, the Bucs are anchored behind the plate by three-
year varsity starter Hiatt.
Team Weaknesses: Bucs have solid offensive attack but must be consistent.

Duly noted: Rod Quick joins the Bucs staff this season as a student-intern.
Rod is a former standout for Scotland County High School coached by Tommy
Britt. Rod is finishing his degree in Secondary Physical Education from UNCW.
