Academic Class Descriptions

CLASSES TAUGHT BY MS. KAYS

9th Grade----Occupational Preparation 1 --Career awareness and Career 
Exploration

9th Grade---Career Lab                            Hands on training in the 
classroom preparing students for jobs. Students work on various projects for 
the Buccaneer Treasure Chest that are sold at various times throughout the 
year.  All money goes back into the class to purchase more projects for the 
future. The focus is on beginning to have the students learn work skills and 
work ethics so they can be successful when they go to off campus internships 
and competitive paid 
jobs. 
                                                       
Skills that are worked on are :  being on time, initiative, working well with 
co-workers and supervisors, staying on task, correctly completing a required 
job, completing jobs as required, following directions, doing as asked even 
when it may be a job they don't like doing, accepting constructive 
critisicism and correcting themselves.   The student begins to earn the 
required 300 on campus hours in this class.

10th Grade--Occupational Preparation 2A & 2B

                          2A---Academic requirements including ethics and 
responsiblitites on the job. The focus is on getting students even more 
prepared for a job/career.  This is where the students have bookwork, 
homework, classwork, and tests.
                         2B---    Hands on training in the classroom 
preparing students for jobs. Students work on various projects for the 
Buccaneer Treasure Chest that are sold at various times throughout the year.  
All money goes back into the class to purchase more projects for the future. 
The focus is on beginning to have the students learn work skills and work

competitive paid jobs. The students continue to work towards the required 
300 on campus hours.

The students continue to earn the required 300 on campus hours in this class.

11th Grade----Occuptional Prepartion 3A & 3B-----Students are off campus at 
job internships in the community 4 days a week, 3 hours per day.  (Tue. --
Fri.)  
The students have the academic part of this in the classroom on 
Mondays.  This is actual "on the job training".  

All work responsibilities and work ethics they have learned in Career Lab and 
Occuprep 2B are applied in real job settings for the students.  This gives 
the students the opportunity to gain experience and work skills they would 
not be able to get in a classroom setting.  

Students work towards earning the required for the 240 
off campus internship hours.

OFF CAMPUS INTERNSHIP WORK SITES:  HOME DEPOT---LOWE'S FOODS---MARSHALL'S---
TJ MAXX---D & E DODGE---HOLLIDAY INN EXPRESS.

12th Grade----Occupational Preparation 4--- At this point, students are 
expected to have jobs at  and will be meeting most of the goals of the class 
off campus at their paid jobs.  
In order to receive credit for this class they should have completed all 
required hours, or currently working at competitive paid employment. The 
students are working toward the 360 paid employment hours required by the 
state.
ALL STUDENTS CURRENTLY WORKING AT A COMPETITIVE PAID JOB IN THE COMMUNITY 
MUST SAVE THEIR PAYSTUBS AND TURN INTO ME FOR PROOF OF THE HOURS THEY HAVE 
WORKED.
