How is Occupational Course of Study different from other courses of study?

The Occupational Course of Study, often referred to as the OCS program, is
designed to prepare students to enter the workforce. Students receive
instruction in English, Math, Self-Advocacy, Science, Social Studies and
Occupational Preparation. They will experience job internships both on
campus and off campus. Students are also required to take four Career
Technical classes so that they may learn some of the basic skills involved
in a variety of careers (residential construction, culinary arts, print
graphics, business, child care, electrical trades, and technology). They
also may choose eight different electives to round out their high school
experience. Finally, they are required to become gainfully employed in order
to complete the "Paid Employment Hours" required by the State of North
Carolina for their diploma.
