These courses are designed to prepare you to enter the real world of business
with some basic knowledge and skills in order to compete, therefore, conduct
yourself with a high degree of professionalism. This conduct includes
using appropriate language, decorum and attire. You will be expected to
be knowledgeable on current events (politics, business, sports, world
issues, etc.) enabling you to participate in class discussions.
Test days: After school tutoring:
Tuesday and Friday Monday and Wednesday 3:45-4:35 pm
Class Rules:
- Respect everyone in the class and everything in the classroom. Do not work
or play with the computers unless you have been directed to by the teacher.
- ID's are required.
- Clothing must conform to school rules.
- Stay in your seat and ask to be excused.
- No food or drinks.
- You will have assigned seats.
- Be on time and be prepared.
Absences - If your absences become excessive, I will contact your parents or
guardian for a parent-teacher conference.
Tardiness - The first 3 tardies are excused. Every unexcused tardy
thereafter will receive one after school detention per incident.
Make Up Work:
Make up work will only be granted for excused absences.
Make up work must be completed within one week of absence.
It is the student's responsibility to follow up on missed assignments.

Syllabus for Business Law
General Description:
This course is designed to acquaint students with the basic legal
principles common to business and personal activities. Topics include
concepts to assist students when evaluating contracts, maximizing purchasing
power through credit, purchasing appropriate insurance, renting and owning
real estate and other related legal topics. Business concepts such as
contracting, ethics, starting a business, hiring employees, managing
employees or representing other businesses as employee or contractor are
included.
We will reinforce skills in critical thinking, organization and communication.
Competencies:
- Explain the origin, development, sources and meaning of law.
- Analyze the dual court system and procedures in civil and criminal cases.
- Analyze the most common torts and the basic elements of each.
- Analyze the elements of contracts.
- Analyze consideration, capacity and legality as they apply to contracts.
- Explain how contracts are terminated.
- Explain the responsibilities of minors within the law.
- Describe the formalities and restrictions of marital law and divorce law.
- Discuss pertinent issues in planning for the future.
- Identify special circumstances relating to the sale of goods.
- Analyze rights and obligations in borrowing money and using credit.
- Assess the various kinds of negotiable instruments and explain their use.
- Purchasing insurance.
- Understanding personal and real property rights.
- Explain and analyze terminology and laws involving working relationships.

Everything is to be kept in chronological order.
2. Articles/Projects-Class presentations of at least one legal related news
article and/or a group project per week.
3. Quizzes-You will be allowed to use your notebook/class notes to
take all Quizzes.
4. Tests-We will attempt to test once per week. Most tests will be open-
notebook/class notes.
5. Homework/Classwork-All class activities are open for participation, and
you are expected to participate, especially when called upon.

General Description:
This course is designed to enhance your understanding of basic business
concepts and how they relate to and affect your everyday life. We will
emphasize how the individual affects business activities and decisions. Plus
we will attempt to explain how the various economic systems interact.
Finally, we will develop the skills that the individual needs to handle their
finances and their own economic life.
Competencies:
- Explain key characteristics of the private enterprise system.
- Analyze the role of the consumer.
- Demonstrate effective leadership/communication skills.
- Interpret how technological changes impact businesses and individuals.
- Explain the importance of money management and banking.
- Exhibit money management skills
(opening checking accounts, maintaining check register, etc.).

- Explain the theory of savings and investing.
- Explain the various types of insurance protections.

Syllabus for Digital Communication
General Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to Digital Communication
Systems and computer applications skills. Digital Communication ensures that
each student will learn how to operate and utilize digital equipment.
This knowledge will allow him or her to move on to the next level of computer
applications and/or graphic arts. It will also provide you with work related
skills that will give you an advantage in the job market. With the
successful completion of this course you will know how to use todays
new technology.
Compentencies:
- Describe the purpose, components and use of a digital computer system.
- Learn proper position at the computer and exercise the touch method and
voice recognition techniques needed to operate the computer.
- Examine alternative input devices and connectivity.
- Create documents using traditional keyboard and alternative input devices.
- Create spreadsheets and databases using traditional and alternative
input devices.
- Demonstrate career leadership development and employability skills.
