Students and parents,
I am looking forward to working with you this semester. Chemistry is very
fun and exciting. However, it does require time and effort on your part in
order to be successful. Listed below are some of the things that you can do
to succeed in chemistry:
1.	Please ask questions in class. You need to take responsibility for
learning by letting me know what you don’t understand. If you are shy about
that, come before school to ask questions.
2.	Take neat notes in class and read over them nightly. As you read,
you will discover things you don’t understand and you will be able to ask
questions the next day about these items. Reading nightly means you are
studying nightly, so you will be more prepared for tests and quizzes.
3.	Please limit absences as much as possible. I can help you with make
up work and provide you with notes you’ve missed, but it’s never going to be
as good as the real thing. When you are absent, please check my web page for
material covered and assignments for that day. You may also contact me by e-
mail or phone, but please do so before 3:35 pm.
4.	Tutoring is available every Tuesday after school in my room from
3:40 until 4:30. Please attend these tutoring sessions. Come prepared with
questions about concepts you don’t understand. This is your chance to
increase your knowledge and understanding, which is the only way to increase
your grade.
5. Check my web page under Daily Assignments for topics discussed in
class and for homework assignments when you are absent or if you forgot to
write them down. I will also include sections of the textbook for you to
read for additional help when applicable. This page is updated each week.

Materials
Loose leaf binder blue or black pens
   Loose leaf paper pencils
5 dividers Graphing OR scientific calculator (not both!)

Test Days
Science test days are Tuesday or Thursday.

Grading
   1st 9-weeks 2nd 9-weeks
   Tests = 50%                    Tests = 50%
   Quizzes = 15%                  Quizzes = 25%
   Lab reports = 15% Lab reports = 25%
Midterm exam = 20% Final Exam (EOC Test) = 25% of final grade

•	Homework is checked periodically and will count as a quiz grade.
Sometimes I will let you know when I am going to check it and sometimes I
will not. It is your responsibility to complete all homework assignments.
•	Quizzes are announced and unannounced.
•	Quizzes will be graded and discussed on the same day given, so there
will be no make ups for missed quizzes. Missed quiz grades will be replaced
by the next test grade.
•	Missed tests can be made up on Tuesdays after school. Test grades
that are not made up will be replaced by the midterm (1st 9-weeks) or final
exam grade (2nd 9-weeks).
