Counseling

A school counselor's role is to help children with normal developmental
problems. We DO not offer therapy! If we meet with students individually,
we normally do not meet more than six consecutive times. We meet with
students to discuss typical problems such as problems with friends, school,
and/or family. Students get referred to us by three sources: themselves,
teachers, and parents.

Self-referrals-Students have the right to talk to a school counselor. They
have "Counselor Grams" in their classrooms that they can fill out. It asks
for their name, teachers name, and the reason(s) why they want to see a
counselor. The student or the teacher gives the counselor the "Counselor
Gram" and we try to schedule that student as soon as our schedule allows.
Parents are not always notified if a student sees the counselor. Parents are
only notified if it is in the best interest of the student.

Teachers-Teachers can refer students for individual counseling or group
counseling if they think the student would benefit from those services.

Parents-Parents can refer their children, if they would like to. Feel free
to call or email us if you have any questions or concerns.
