General Ideas for projector uses in the classroom:
  • An LCD projector can be used in the classroom to view educational films, show lesson presentations or even to get students involved with interactive slides. Administrators can use an LCD projector to display a slide show of fun school events and student interaction or as an educational tool at teacher trainings. Many school districts add LCD projectors to their classrooms because of the variety of ways in which they can be used.

White Board

  • When an LCD projector is used to display an image on a whiteboard, the teacher has the option to use dry erase markers to draw on the image. This can be useful in a variety of subjects, from demonstrating a chemical reaction to diagramming sentences or labeling muscle groups in anatomy class. Students can use markers in different colors to participate as well. For example, a teacher may display a paragraph on the screen and ask students to mark errors on the whiteboard. After the demonstration, the whiteboard can be erased and the LCD projector can move to the next image. This technique is easier than using an overhead projector, where all images must be copied onto clear film. It is also preferable to slide projectors, which can't produce images that are as clear as those from an LCD projector.

Presentations

  • Teachers can prepare presentations on a computer and display them on an LCD projector. This can be very useful for creating lesson plans that can be used year after year. It provides a large, clear image that students can see from anywhere in the room. Some administrators use LCD projectors for presentations at teacher trainings or workshops. On a parent night or at a school assembly, LCD projectors provide an easy way to show students and parents about the school's mission through a presentation or photo slide show.

Film Screenings

  • LCD projectors allow teachers to easily show educational films. They can show clips of video they have found online or play a DVD. This is especially useful for schools that previously relied on TVs that sat on wheeled stands and had to be moved from room to room. All the teachers need is a blank whiteboard or pull-down screen on which to display the video.
