How much homework can we expect every night?

Our goal as a fourth grade team is to keep homework time under an
hour each
night. Students are expected to read independently or with a
family member
for 20-30 minutes and will be given a weekly log to have signed by
a parent.
Math homework should take between 25 and 30 minutes. Please feel
free to
send me a note if your child has been working diligently for 60
minutes and
has not yet finished.

How much does lunch cost?

A student lunch is $1.75. Adult lunches are priced a la carte.
Please feel
free to join your child for lunch! Remember to check in at the front
office
before meeting your child in the cafeteria.

How can I nominate my child for AG?

Please let either myself or Mrs. Katie Anderson know that you
would like to
nominate your child for AG testing. Mrs. Anderson will ask that
you submit
the request in writing, providing a description of your child's
strengths.

How do I sign up to be a volunteer?

Many of you already signed up with me to be a classroom volunteer!
Thank
you!
If you are interested, please email me! The most important thing
to know is
that, as a volunteer in any Wake County school, you must complete
the
Volunteer Online Registration. You may stop by the school's
technology lab
during morning arrival time or open house nights to complete this
registration.

What are some things I can do to volunteer in my child's classroom?

- Be a "guest teacher" in either science or math and do
a fun, unit related
lesson
- Make copies for either Mr. Maxwell's class or the 4th grade
teachers
- Provide snacks for classroom celebrations
- Help tutor small groups of students in math or reading
- Come in and read aloud to our class or to individual students
- Come play with us at recess!
- Help us integrate technology into the classroom (podcasts,
wikis, etc.).
Mr. Maxwell would REALLY like to integrate technology and is very
open to
learning how, just hasn't found much time to do that yet!
- Share your career with us!
- Plan and facilitate a classroom celebration
- Share your family's culture or ethnic background
- Chaperone field trips
- Coordinate a community service project in which our class can
participate
- Manage book club orders: collect the orders, place the order
online and
help sort and distribute the books
-Help students with individual or group projects
-BECOME A MEMBER OF THE MILLS PARK PTA!!!
*** If you have any ideas not listed here, PLEASE email me! This
is just a
list of ideas I came up with.

How can I set up a parent-teacher conference?

Please email me whenever you need to meet with me. I am happy to
conduct a
conference over the phone or in person, whatever works best for
your
schedule. I plan to have scheduled conferences towards the end of
the first
and third quarters with each student and their parent(s).

Can my child attend a conference?

Yes! Actually, in fourth grade, I prefer that the student be
present for a
conference. They are at a point in their lives where it is
becoming
crucial that they begin to take ownership of their own education
and I feel
that it is important for them to be present
when we discuss certain aspects of their progress or concerns. If
there is a
particular concern or conference you wish that your child not
attend, of
course that is perfectly acceptable.
