I'd like to take a minute to welcome you and your child to Mr. Maxwell's
Fourth Grade class. It will prove to be an extremely busy and exciting year!
The kids will be challenged in learning a wide variety of new academic
concepts, as well as, how to live and work with other children in a
classroom setting. Our classroom strives to be one where diversity is
appreciated and learning reaches far beyond the pages of a book.
Since graduating from Elmira College in 2001 with a degree in Elementary
Education and a minor in Musical Theatre, Dance and Humanities, I
have had the opportunity to work with children in various educational settings
throughout my career. I taught fifth grade at Broadway Elementary
School in Elmira, NY. In 2005, I moved to Winston Salem, NC, where
I taught fourth and fifth grade at Mineral Springs Elementary School Renzulli
Academy of Arts & Technology. I relocated to Cary, NC in 2008 where I joined
the originating staff of Mills Park Elementary. In 2008, I was awarded the
Cary Chamber of Commerce'Teacher of the Month' and the "'YMCA Character
Education'Honor A Teacher Award."
Currently, I teach a lyrical/contemporary, jazz funk, and musical
theater jazz class at Ninth Street Dance in Durham, NC. Most recently, I
appeared in Ira David Wood's, "A Christmas Carol."
In January of 2011, I completed my Masters Degree in
Curriculum & Instruction: Integrated Teaching Through the Arts at Lesley
University in Cambridge, MA. At this time, I am exploring the possibilities
of continuing on to obtain a PhD in Adult Learning & Development with focus on
Educational Leadership.
