NHCS Pre-K Center is a More at Four Public School Pre-Kindergarten Center with a current enrollment of 136.  The ethnic make-up is 67.9% white, 9.7% Black, 15.7% Hispanic, 4.5% Multi-racial and 2.2% Asian, and 8.2% students with disabilities.  61.9% of our students qualify for free and reduced meals.

 

NHCS Pre-K Center incorporates the Foundations of Early Standards, Comprehensive Literacy Resource Guide for Preschool Teachers, and Creative Curriculum in daily instruction to meet the learning objectives that will be assessed using LAP-3 assessments and Get It, Got It, Go! Individual Growth and Development Indicator.  The faculty also incorporates strategies from Classroom Instruction that Works (CITW). 

 

NHCS Pre-K Center continues strengthen parent involvement through our PTA, parent workshops, and family nights.  The staff also continues our alliances with community organizations and educational institutions.  

 

As a New Hanover County Pre-K pilot site for Positive Behavior Support (PBS), NHCS Pre-K Center promotes a positive school climate in which every child can be successful.  Staff has explicitly defined the school’s expectations of respectfulness, responsibility, safety and kindness in every venue of the school day.  These expectations are taught to the students throughout the school year.  Students are recognized for positive behavioral and academic success through a series of school-wide and in-class incentives.

 

All teachers have a degree in B/K.  Some have elementary and/or exceptional children’s degrees as well.  All teacher assistants hold an associates degree or have completed a specfic number of cousre work hours mandated by the state.
