Book Adventure

Dear Parents,

I’m kicking off a new activity that uses a website called Book Adventure to motivate students to read more frequently and carefully.  Book Adventure is developed, owned and maintained by Sylvan Learning and made available at no cost, enables students to earn points as they become better readers.

This is how it works:  Students and teachers choose appropriate books from the Book Adventure database; then the students go to the library, check the books out and read them.  After students have read the entire book, they return to the Book Adventure website to take quizzes on the books and are awarded points based on the number of questions they answer correctly.

The exciting thing about Book Adventure is that it provides clear feedback on your child’s reading accomplishment.  Periodically, I will be sending you printed reports that show the number and types of books your child is reading, along with notes on how well your child understands them.

If you have internet access at home, work or a local library, you can explore Book Adventure yourself at www.bookadventure.com.  Help your child register for home play, which can also take place during track breaks, as well as, during the school year.  I have already registered each student for school play and will provide students with their user names/passwords for use when they track back in.

If you have any questions about this new activity, please contact me via email at dmiranda@wcpss.net or leave a message with the front desk 919-570-2220.  Thanks for your support in helping your child succeed in the world of books!

                                                                                    Sincerely,
