I was born in Greenville, NC. My dad was transferred to Raleigh when I was
one, and I lived in Wake County and attended WCPS until I was twelve. I was
in the middle of my seventh grade year when my dad was transferred back to
Greenville. I finished public school in Greenville and later went to East
Carolina University, where I majored in Elementary Education and minored in
Political Science.
I am the oldest of four siblings. I have one younger sister and two younger
brothers.
After college, I taught third grade at Contentnea Elementary School. This
was the same year Hurricane Floyd came to shore and the rain and subsequent
floods caused a lot of damage in Lenoir County. Many of my students lost
their homes. It was a tough first year of teaching.
I married my college sweetheart (about 10 years ago) and we moved to South
Carolina. I decided not to teach since the school year had already started.
We lived in SC for one year before moving to Utah.
In Utah, I was a substitute teacher in many schools before taking a long term
sub position in third grade. The next school year, I taught fifth grade
followed by fourth grade. I worked on my ESL and Reading Endorsements while
teaching in UT.
A couple years after our daughter, Taylor, was born my husband and I were
able to transfer to Williamsburg, VA. One year later an opening came
available at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Henderson and we were able to
make it back to NC. Our daughter, Mallory, was born 4 years ago. And we
welcomed our third daughter, Avery, last September.
With one basset and three girls, our family is busy. We love being closer to
our extended families in NC and are happy to call Raleigh home. We have
lived here for a little over five years now. We enjoy spending time at the
YMCA and are actively involved in many of their programs.
My husband, Allen, volunteers in Taylor’s class, Mrs. Sadler’s 3rd grade, and
for the school as needed. Sometimes I can twist his arm and he’ll help in
our class too.
I am thrilled to be back in teaching. I’m looking forward to my fourth year
at NFPES. It’s going to be a year full of challenges and growth. I’m proud
to teach in Wake County where the expectations are high and especially proud
to teach at NFPES to help implement many of the wonderful opportunities there
are here for our kids.

Thank you for sharing your children with me. It’s going to be a great year!
