How do I get in touch with Mrs. Johnston and Mrs. Moore?
The best way is via email (kjohnston@olls.org). We usually check emails in
the classroom before school, during specials, snack or lunch, and after
school. We both share the same email address.
What is a Wednesday Folder?
A Wednesday Folder is a folder which comes home every Wednesday. Inside the
folder you will find most of the work completed by your child from that week,
There may also be notes or informational letters from the teachers; or forms
from the office. Please return it to the
classroom by Friday of that week.
What is a Wednesday eMailer?
The Wednesday eMailer will come to you every Wednesday via email. It will
contain a letter from Dr. Bob and information about events and activities in
school. Anything that needs to be sent home in paper form, will be in the
Wednesday folder.
Any forms you fill out that need to be sent in to school, should be returned
with your Wednesday folder.
When should I send in a snack?
We eat a snack EVERY DAY in Kindergarten; even half days. They need something
to eat in addition to their lunch. Please choose: fruit, cheese, crackers,
pretzels, or something else that is not a dessert.
How do we celebrate birthdays in KJ?
On your child's birthday you may send in a snack. The snack needs to be for
each individual; no cookie cakes, cakes, or things that need cut up. Please
do not send in anything that has a lot of frosting. Cookies, brownies, jello
cups, pudding cups, rice krispie treats, and donuts are all great examples
that we have had in the past. If it is a summer bday your child may celebrate
on their half bday. We have 26 students in our class.
What is rest time like in KJ?
A rest mat is provided for each student at the beginning of the school year.
They will use their rest mat for the entire school year and it is theirs to
keep after the year is over.
Rest mats will come home every Friday for a washing. Please return them on
Monday.
They may bring in a small stuffed animal to cuddle with at rest time. Please
no action toys or anything that makes noise (like Zhu Zhu pets).
Each student is assigned a resting place in the classroom. These may change
throughout the year. We turn out the lights, put on soft, relaxing music and
rest for about 30 minutes each full day of school.
What are Kinderbuddies?
Each Kindergarten student is assigned an 8th grade buddy. They will have this
buddy for the entire school year. We do all kinds of things with our
Kinderbuddies. We generally meet about once a month to play on the
playground, play board games or make crafts. Each Kindergartener also gets to
sit with their special buddy at school Mass.
What is Star of the Week?
Each full week of the school year, a different student is chosen to be Star of
the Week. They may bring in up to 5 photos to share with the class, which
will remain on our Star board all week. They may also bring in a show and
tell item each day of their week. In addition, they get special jobs in
class; line leader, pass out papers, etc. They will also receive a special
Star pencil.
